Well, usually the headlining spot is the kiss of death on a weeknight, that's most likely a clean up spot and most bands wrangle to be NOT last. Clubs here still have a late start ensuring that folks will take off before the last band.
Got there about 4:15, and yep, it was nasty hot. I brought a cooler full of water bottles, and I think we drank half of them before the show started!
We had a good turnout despite the heat, and we played pretty well. One wrinkle, the manager of the diner told us before the show that a local resident had been complaining about the noise. I don't know why you'd choose to live right next to a mall with lots of foot and vehicle traffic, and then expect peace & quiet, but the word was the EPA was going to send someone out with a Db meter. It seems there is a limit to allowable noise levels even before 10 pm, and we were a couple of points over.
I hope this doesn't mean the end of shows there at the Star Diner, they have a band every Friday all summer. It's a great gig. But sometimes it only takes one jerk to ruin things for all... :scowl:
This afternoon it's my originals band, with another outdoor show, a neighborhood party. My brother just told me we'll need "miles of extension cords". Well, I've got 100' worth... I hope that will do...
Long weekend.
Drummer's birthday was on tuesday, set up his kit and the band played at a bar unannounced. The whole time we feared that word would get out and there'd be 1000 people at this 120 cap bar.
Thursday I got a chance to work Local Sound with a friend for the Steve Miller Band show in Portland. First big show I've worked and wow what a difference. snapped a couple pics for you.
The next day, after crashing in a van, was taking a run up to Seattle to work with the birthday-boy and crew. after dealing with traffic we get to the venue and notice a noise from the trailer.

The bassist, guitarist, sound guy and I have to be back in Portland that night. I have to be in Sacramento in 24hrs, driving. Fortunately our opener, Windowpane, happens to have a spare wheel hub and bearings. For $20 we snag the bearings and the sound guy (former ASE certified mechanic/Ford Sr. Master tech) and I swap the fragmented bearing out for the semi-new. Wrap up the cover with Electrical and Gaff tape.
Drive back to Portland, crash, again in the van, oversleep, and then drive to Sacramento and get there in just enough time to meet my dad for his Birthday gift, Steve Miller at Raley Field. And a memo to Sacramento, Stop Shooting up before the concert. How the hell do your meth addicts afford the lower reserve tickets?

No gigs for me: back in the hospital. The original fix for some of my back problems failed. They picked this up on an MRI on Monday: was admitted to the hospital and given bed rest. They are seeing spinal cord compression and they are going to operate (again) to fix it. Meanwhile, the chemotherapy that was working has stopped working. The doctors have other options but they need to fix the back (and possibly some intense radiation treatments) before they go back to chemo treatments.
Okay, we have a show tonight small Italian restaurant in Saddle Brooke NJ it is the place the no matter when we play we have weather issues and it is supposed to rain so what else is new! Always a good place for us, not too far from home it is just north on the G.S. Parkway. I’m looking forward to rocking the house. RTS
Gig tonight the Wharf Tavern in Aston, PA. 1st time there and seems like a decent place. We're hoping to bring some folks out and get asked back...
Am a bit scared though. I bought a puppy about a month back and he's up every night. The sleep depravation is killing me. Good thing he's adorable or out the door he'd go.. (just kidding) I'm forgetting stuff right and left, and conking out at 10:30ish every night.
Wish me luck, it's gonna be all adrenaline and caffiene...

Okay as promised the weather was nuts sideways rain lighting splitting the sky thunder shaken the building! But hey it has been a crazy summer. We rocked the place along with the thunder! The bad weather did not keep our fans home thankfully the place was packed! And they stayed with us to rock into the early AM. I got home at 2:30 showered, ate and in bed by 3:30 a great gig!
Didn't check in, but last Saturday was playing an outdoor gig here in Washington, had a good time, most of the rowdy folks were hemmed in the drinking area, I wandered in there a couple of times being that I was setup wireless.

I had an interesting gig on Saturday. The day started without a gig address and a contact we couldn't reach. So we just headed in the general direction of the gig. We ended up playing a Cancer Benifit in a small town in Iowa. Even though it was at a Church our unaware lead singer didn't change the setlist to replace the songs with slight adult content so in the middle of an otherwise country setlist, I ended up singing Ram Jam's Black Betty just after the Pastor and his family finished their Sacred set. The turnout wasn't great considering there were 3 seperate weddings going on in this small town. There was also no air conditioning in this particular old church on this particular 95 degree day....Our load out included one of the grips dropping our 20 space rack full of in-ear and wireless gear off of a 6 ft. dock....the same grip then drove the equipment truck up a hill he couldn't get up without bottoming out. We stopped him before he centered the truck, but after we spent a whole hour getting the truck out of this mess we realized that below the cement slab of the loading dock was an old abandoned coal shaft...we realized this because the weight of the equipment truck put a 3 foot hole in the cement and bent the rebar to expose a 20 foot drop....where's the video camera when you need it? We managed to raise some money for a great cause, and escape with our lives! WHEW! WHAT A NIGHT!

okay, we played a place called the Sun Set grill here in NJ .5 hour from home so not bad. Place is always packed you need to park blocks from the place after unloading. Great gig asked 5 times for one more song!! They would not let us leave and that was a good thing ha, ha, ha. Lot of dancing and partying so the owner was happy all night.Cool thing is when you see people leaving with their doggy bag stand there listening to you playing and decide stay, that is when you know it is going to be a great night! New gig next Sat hit you back after that one should be good two birthday parties in the same place. RTS

Apart from some other scheduling drama though, there were a few dancers, and everyone said when we were done they had a good time.

Great weekend of gigging, except for 5 grown men traveling in a 5 seater SUV with no AC!
Ringside Cafe gig went 'ok'. We were a fill in so didn't have a lot of time to promote it. Small turnout, except for the locals, but we had a great time and it's a great place to play soundwise!
Orlando Brewing Co was great! Large outdoor stage, lots of people showing up for $2 pints, so we had built in crowd! People came and went but it remained pretty steady. It was hot and humid as h3ll! Sold a few CDs. Great place to play!
Tobacco Rd was great! Soundguy was very cool. Small venue so it filled up nicely! Had some equipment issues...ac gtr player\singer broke a string and kick drum pedal came off during song. Otherwise great room and great gig!
3rd weekend in a row, this is for a two night gig at a bar in Longview Wa for the rodeo series

The two nights went off better than expected.
Friday night people we're a little more reserved, still had stuff to do on Saturday, but tonight man, it was flat out, and we were having a blast.
I'm exhausted, it's 4am my time, pictures and details to come later.

Friday: supporting 'bedroom philosopher' in our hometown, 3 bands on the bill, we're the first and only local band, terrible pub, transforms into a nasty nightclub as soon as the band finishes, management are douchebags. should get a bar tab, $60 between us usually, (two pints each)
Saturday: our own show, debuting new tracks for our upcoming debut album, got 120 confirmed guests on facebook, we'll get free drinks, everyone gets free alcoholic punch on the way in. no support band, we are screening an old silent film which we'll improvise to before our set, bit nerve wracking, we're good improvisers but this is our first public soundscaping foray. should be many drinks and parties had by all, especially me.
Sunday: afternoon gig in arts centre in a town an hour and a half away from us, hungover drive sounds hellish, burnie sucks, 20,000 people all very backwards and rough, another 'bedroom philosopher' support
