"Check In" here before and after your gigs, Set #2, the sequel!

Okay we rock on of our favorite place to play last night, As always place was packed. Two of our fans had birthdays that night so the rocking party was gear to them. We played a 4 set night with short breaks in between in order to keep'em rocking and they stay all night!
Only problem we had was our fog machine got busted up in transit to the gig nothing a little crazy glue couldn't fix. Gig was 15 minutes from house got in the door at 2AM my 15 yr son help me bring my basses inside I shower, ate dinner watch some TV and was asleep by 3AM. We are rocking again next Sat. in a place we only played once before so we shall see how it pans out.RTS

Funkranomicon has a nice gig at one of the better venues here - Crow's Nest at the harbor. We're expecting a great turnout and lots of shakin' booties.
I think the evening calls for rum. Dark rum.

And that's exactly what we got. Nice to be back (we took a monthlong hiatus while our singer's baby was born - family time) and we're back with a phat groovin' vengance. :D

Saturday: our own show, debuting new tracks for our upcoming debut album, got 120 confirmed guests on facebook, we'll get free drinks, everyone gets free alcoholic punch on the way in. no support band, we are screening an old silent film which we'll improvise to before our set, bit nerve wracking, we're good improvisers but this is our first public soundscaping foray. should be many drinks and parties had by all, especially me.

Sunday: afternoon gig in arts centre in a town an hour and a half away from us, hungover drive sounds hellish, burnie sucks, 20,000 people all very backwards and rough, another 'bedroom philosopher' support

Friday night: very early start, 8:30, empty pub, only three of our friends and the other two bands. "white Russians" and "bedroom philosopher" were all excellent people, genuine and friendly, so although there was no crowd it was nice to play our music to a supportive and discerning audience. quiet night, got a decent tab, ended up too drunk to drive which resulted in $45 dollars of parking fines. bedroom philospher and his awkwardstra were hilarious and tight and we picked up some great contacts including potential management, sweet.

Saturday: excellent excellent night, 160 or so payers, and by the end of the night our singer/guitarist was playing in his underpants with two of our friends, also mostly naked. my good friend sanje is well known for public nudity and had his 38th exhibition (he really keeps a tally) synchronised with our last note. film screening was a success, we all got very hammered, one of those gigs when you walk on sober and get off staggering. we played really well despite our obviously loose encore.

Sunday: woke up with five minutes to get ready, threw a t-shirt on, kissed the girl I went home with goodbye and jumped in my trumpet player's car. I really needed to brush my teeth but besides that I was far less hungover than I anticipated - bonus. interesting gig, in a town hall, great big stage, wonderful sound but we were really disconnected from the audience who were all seated and impossible to see due to the lighting. there were very polite claps between songs, a very high-school-assembly type of affair. very relaxed set, we were all supremely tired, started at 3pm. much better than I had anticipated.

Okay We play a place we only played one time before and it was okay show but nothing like last night! The place was packed (thanks Facebook) We have them rocking from the first song to the end and people just kept coming in all night long. A fan posted a you tube video and emailed us the link so it isn't great but, it is the thought that count. Gig on Saturday was a private party for a doctor and friends at his big house. We played out of the garage. Supposed to be 8-11 and maybe a few tunes more depending on the mood of the crowd.

Well, we finished at 1 after telling them no matter how much more money they had we had to stop. No voices and no more songs left. We played almost 70 tunes (about 6 we for the first time ever) and only took 2 breaks.

That was a long gig, but the load in/out was easy, the food and drink was free and
yummy, and I put a lot of money in my account. People were happy, they said keep the date open, so we'll see.

2 nighter at a Youth lock in for a church in Snellville. No pay, but It'll be a good way to get our name out. We're still stuck in Winder! Good rock bands might as well be the underground resistance to a vast global empire in that town! Good Christian rock bands (as I guess we are, even non-Christian people come up and compliment us after gigs and tell us that we're good, so I guess that means something...) are even rarer!!

All that in mind, I'm pumped. Practice tomorrow. Gigs next week.

Okay last night we played in a place that normally we have bad weather! But it was really nice out last night, so I for one was on guard for something earth quake something? We got set up pretty quick and got the sound dialed it with a sound check and were ready to go with 5 minutes to spare before show time. First Set was great tight and sounded great place was filling up fast and it looked like the dark cloud had lifting. But I spoke to soon during set two at the end of Van Halen Jump all the power went out the Lead guitarist side of the stage Tv, lights, everything. So we ended the song minus the lead riff. Set 3 and 4 went with a problem but, don't think the cloud was going to give it up that easy a large Nascar lamp suspended from the ceiling crashed down on a table and then on to the floor! thank God it was during break down and know one was sitting there any more! I swear it is true! The place is Caruccis in Saddle Brook nj call and ask them! and the outage I have on video that I will post in the near future. No gigs for the next two weeks but, on sept 11 we are back at you guessed it Caruccis! RTS

2 bands going simultaneously outside for the annual Bike Night here in Martinsburg, WV. There was a classic rock main attraction down the street on the square and us the Christian C. band playing from our Church's parking lot. We had a great time and so glad we got to play. Played 1 set about 2 hours. Some friends from the opposite end of town said they could hear us pretty well. The other band was 3 blocks away and I never heard them once the whole time???

One song I became completely befuddled for the first verse and just couldn't remember the line and suddenly about half to bystanders moved on and I felt pretty bad. But, by the end of the next song a new bunch had stopped to listen.

improv week!

Tuesday: local jazz club gig. tenor sax quartet, I'll be playing upright. no rehearsal, played with the saxophonist and the drummer many times before, only two gigs with the pianist but we really see eye to eye in terms of taste and interplay, precious rarity. this particular lineup has only played twice together but we seem to be suited to "modern" (60's) tunes: monk, Mingus, miles, trane, shorter etc. older demographic at the launceston jazz club, the trad police should be out in full force ("everyone knows jazz stopped in 1940!"), but we'll do what we like. pay should be about $100 each, don't know the drinks deal, probably staff prices.

Saturday afternoon: 'the white box project'. my original band will crawl into a white box in the cbd to improvise a 45 minute set of ambient/noisescape type stuff. we'll be filmed and the footage will be screened live to the audience outside the box. they can see in, we can't see out. it's for 'junction', a youth arts initiative. $500 pay for the entire band, putting that straight into our kitty so we can cover our recording expenses for next month.

Saturday night: improvising dance-orientated music with the aforementioned original band at our favourite, dodgy club. 11pm til 3pm, two breaks. we don't plan anything but often end up slipping in pop-lyrics over the weirdness, throw in sections of our own songs, do whatever we like as long as the people keep drinking and dancing. free drinks all night, useless but friendly owners and staff, tragic house music, awful sound system, trashed clientelle. it's our last gig before we take off to record our debut album, great way to blow off steam, party with our friends and earn $700 for the band kitty. always a long and excellent night.

So we're playing one of our favourite venues last night. Small place, tiny stage, but always a great crowd... All was going great... Almost the end of the first set, when the singer suddenly announces we have a special guest. No one tells me anything! Then he announces we're playing Alright Now - we don't do Alright Now!

Then Robert Hart - ex-Bad Company appears out of nowhere!!!! Even better my wife who never gets to come to gigs (cause she's at home with the kids) was at the front with a video recorder!!!

The place went nuts. It totally rocked! We got to do Wishing Well with him too (much better song!).

One of our best ever gigs.
