We had our first gig on Friday. More like a pre-season game than a full out gig...

We played 45 minutes at a cultural center in Chicago that has bands come in once a month. So we picked our best 8-10 songs to play. We were the undercard to the headliner.

It was an auditorium venue with a big stage and seating for about 300.

Well, it could not have gone better. About 150 people came including about 20 friends and family. People were dancing in the aisles and at the end we got a standing ovation and an invitation back to do it again - this time as the headliner - sole act.

They had a green room and announced us as we came up on stage - the full on rock star treatment!

What a way to start out. :hyper:

Saturday played a coffee house with an acoustic guitar player and percussionist.Fourth time I've played with this guitarist,but the drummer and I have played together in different bands for years.Drummer arrived first,with PA head(house speaker system),then me.We start setting up and ten minutes later the guitarist/singer and crew show up.Start playing 10 minutes after we're supposed to and go for 35 minutes then take break for 25 minutes.During break,girlfriend of guitar player pays me for the last gig I did with him at the end of September,thank goodness.Next set we get four songs into set and he breaks a D string,no replacement strings.A friend of his goes down the street to a bar that has live acts as well and bums some strings off a player there.Restrings his guitar and 15 minutes later we start again,really.At the end of all this I got $26.00 whole American dollars for my efforts.I'm tolerant,but this is stretching me a little.

Played at "BearHawks" sports bar in Chicago Ridge Sat night. Last minute gig. Not alot of time to pump it. New owner...a nice kid, totally re-did place. Other band canceled on him. Must 've been 15 people in there at most. Felt terrible for him. He loved us though, wants us back.

I got a job, didn't take any $$$ off him son't think the drummer did either, two of the guitar players aren't working...they did. Fine by me.

Figured a little good will is a good thing.

I just got an email from a person who comes out to see us whenever we are playing in my hometown this is funny. to start I normally am in a Fedora and mirror sunglasses it is my normal stage look. It was between sets and Bob walks in the door and I had my sunglasses and hat off sitting at a table when I saw him I stood up to shake his hand and say hello and thanks for coming he looked right at me and walked past. I thought that was strange? I thought he was po'ed or something so I said nothing to him. So we hit the stage and he is waving at me like hey I am here so it was cool after that. He emailed this morning because when I left the stage again he said he saw me take of my hat and sunglasses and realized I was that guy at the table who stood up when he came in he said he did not know me from Adam without my hat and mirrored sunglasses he said I look so different when I have my gear on and he said he was sorry ha ha ha.

A little funny gig story: Our first set was great, we played for 1 1/2 hours, the whole band sounded awesome. We take a 15 minute break, and take the stage for the second set. I was running: Bass>Pitchblack>REDDI>STL 900>Cabs

Between sets I muted the Streamliner. As we're playing I was having a tough time hearing myself, so I kept creeping up the volume a little bit on the GB. Not until the end did I realize that I had the damn amp muted the entire set. FOH was fine, and I could hear myself through the mains and the monitors. Total facepalm moment.

Overall the show was great. Not much of a turnout though, which was surprising since it's one of the biggest bar nights of the year.

2nd gig as a bass player last night, place was packed standing room only, sound guy had to cancel last minute, so I was trying to run this PA I knew nothing about from stage ( I know how to use a PA but this dude had it rigged up bass ackwards....was a nervous wreck all night, cant shake the stage fright....last set was the best, we had Michigan's best Alice cooper impersonator do the last set complete with props...just wish I was not so nervous and could have enjoyed it more!If I would have been playing drums I would have been fine! Hope this goes away soon :hiding:

Great gig place was packed mishap with my bass cable fell out while playing looked down and the nut had come off the jack and I didn't notice till I pick up the cable and watch it roll into the crowd I never bring only one bass but last night I did (Murphy who?) got it plugged in and finished the set and fixed it on break stole one of a guitar pedal (the nut)

Gig on Friday was a bust. Played too early for no one. Then we got used for our PA. the band we played with was supposed to be an original act but they played a three hour set of covers. No money and a 2 and a half hour drive home in the cold.

Gig last night went by really fast. I arrived, we loaded on stage, we played, we loaded out, I left.

busy day for me for nov. weekend gigs are packing up.

1. an outdoor gig for a extreme metal band for singapore 75th Radio Annivesary, we play loud and fast and as usual the FOH sucks major and sadly the whole thing is broadcast live, i was on my Warwick Vampyre Dark Lord

2. Carnage Fest, the usual metal feast. play for both of my bands the 1st one i was singing and playing and the 2nd one was just a crazy ass bass player, still uses my Vampyre

3. Leviathan's Wrath. A charity event for the sri langka flood victims. we collected donations, used clothes, canned food, etc..etc.. got roped in on a All-Star supergroup thingy. it was fun. wan on my Warwick Taranis 5, cos i need the low B

Just finished sound check at Eighth & Rail in Opelika, AL for Sabra Lucas's CD release party. Go on in about a hour. Did a little 4 song live radio set on Wild Man Steve's show earlier, just me and Sabra (www.wildmansteve.com).

Listening to opener Garrett Lee (awesome singer, killing it!). Pretty full house. Should be good!

(Hope so! This will be my first live gig with a full band on bass in about a decade.)

Played Sat night. Standing room only by 8:30. had a 9:30 start. Crowd was into us and the band was tight. I wasn't happy with my sound (Bass Player are you surprised) So I tweaked at it most of the show. I have played the room many times and have written out settings for rooms I play all the time. So it was just not working Sat. night. I went to my backup bass after the first two sets on the Fender P that I just couldn't dial in. Bass two was round wounds on my Epiphone Embassy and that was a lot better so I finished the show with that one. All in all a good gig one left for this year and then taking some well deserve time off till March. By the way all the tweaking wasn't needed I listened to the video and as always the P was strong in the mix and sounded great! So go figure.

Last show of the year Sat night everything went great. The disappointed fans packed the place standing room only. Hearing it was our last show of the year caused a big buzz on Face book. We had many guest players in the crowd who join us on stage so it was a fun night. I could not have been happier with my sound it was tight and punch a hole through you if you got with in ten feet of the subs yeah kicked a$$! We ended up doing 3 encores because no one in the place want the night to end! Got home at 2:30.
No more shows this year so I will be trolling but unless something changes this is my last gig post! Of course the most requested song of the night VID00615 - YouTube I improvise the He77 out the the bass line as many of you I'm sure do after playing it for the 1000 billionth time so if you listen you may find it interesting. I am running direct to the Bose System using a bass driver pushing through two B1 sub woofers bass is a 1994 Fender MIM Thomastik flatwounds.

Sounds like you did great, for your second gig on bass! Seems like something always goes sideways up there, IME. That's what makes it excitin' :bassist:
