Well, I keep busy in bands, just haven't been playing bass. In my main band I play guitar, and do so in a side band (besides the one pictured above, in which I alternate between bass and guitar, depending on whether we can pick up a fourth) and in church.

At least my daughter is playing bass. She just started college, so I need to get the amp of mine she was borrowing to practice on down to her (she's about 2 hours away now), so she has something to play through. She's a noob at bass so she's not gigging yet, but I bet she'll be in a band at college eventually. She used to play with me in church, and briefly in one of my side bands.

Gotta wedding gig tomorrow night... 3 1/2 hours drive each way and we're coming back after the gig so I hope the money is good.

We'll be playing 3 songs the client requested that we've never played before... two of which we've practiced already and one we just found out about this week that we'll probably have to learn at sound check. :hmm:

Yeah RTS, the songs, thankfully, are really easy.

Stevie Ray Vaughn "Pride & Joy", Four Seasons "Sherrie Baby" and "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healey. The one that just got sprung on us is "Angel Eyes" but we have a 3 1/2 hour drive up there to listen to it on my guitarist's iPod and my drummer charts things out so I think with a couple run-throughs we'll be good to go.

First show with my new band. Thought it went well.

Got in, and the headliner set up their entire backline before the show. The stage wasn't the biggest, and was made even smaller by the lack of room. We opened to a smaller crowd, around 9:30. Singer really was straining his voice and ended up passing out during an intense moment. He fell off stage, knocked over drinks...everyone else, including the band, thought he was just putting on a show, it looked bad ass. Got lots of compliments on my tone, which I like more than compliments abut my playing.

Didn't get paid....

Fun gig tonight with 2 other regional funk bands. We played well and had a good crowd on the floor, which is nice when you're playing original tunes.
Plus it was my wife's first night at a gig since she had neck surgery, and seeing her dancing was wonderful. :-)

I played Sat night at a new place first time there good built in crowd so when our people came out to support we had a decent crowd. Things well for the most part but we had a little problem with feed back? The Bose system we use normally doesn't feedback so we were a little take by surprise by the problem. We work it out and the show after that was rocking people were really into us we had a special guest in the house a good friend of mine in from California Sam LaMonica who is playing drums for Todd Rundgren came up and did Born to be wild with us which was a blast! Got another show this weekend normally place so should be good. RTS

First gig with the new band, and my first proper gig with the "StatusRay" - it performed admirably. The audience had a good time, and I suppose to our surprise, watched our entire set, and then left! It turns out that almost everyone had come to see us, and didn't care about the other bands (the 'headliners' just had the other bands watching them - very bizarre!).

We clearly got scammed out of money though. The band running the evening claimed that half the tickets sold were for them, the other half were for us, and a couple of tickets were sold for each of the other bands.

Never-mind, it was a good gig, and we got paid - can't really ask for much more!

Howdy everyone! I keep forgetting to post in this darn section. Had a great gig last night at the American Hotel in Freehold NJ and never bothered to post.

Come out this Sunday to lovely Carteret NJ to the Oliveiras da Serra Portuguese restaurant and see Astronaut Jones and the Ground Crew LIVE in person for the Happy Entertainment Fun Band excitement and hi jinks. Show is from at 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm. I hope to see as many of you there as possible. They have killer food too!

We played the gig last night, or most of it anyways.

We played 2 sets. During our break after the 2nd set, one of the bar staff came up, told us that the owner said we were "too loud" and that we were done. We weren't allowed to play our 3rd set.

Which apparently is strange because they've booked my buddy's band once before and they played the same tunes with no issue. They also book similar heavier bands as well. We were turned down 4 times throughout the 1st and 2nd set. I could understand being asked to turn down the 1st time, but after that I figured it was fine because we lowered our volume by a decent amount. Some of the crowd we spoke to said they could converse with their friends and order drinks no problem.

Yeah that su@ks Herrlster, we have all been through that we had a situation in a club the Juke box was 10 times louder than we were and the drunk owner kept telling us to turn down. We mention the fact that the Jukes was way louder than we were and they shut us down then the owner got loud and follow us into the parking lot not sure if you ever seen us but we aren't small guys I run 218 at 5'9 and hold a black belt my keyboard player is 6.6 and played tackle for Bucknell, So he starts yell at us in the parking lot and the 5 us surround him and him then ask us not to beat him up cause he had a wife and kids. We call him a loser and packed up and left. He called us later when he needed a band because of a cancellation and I told to go scre7 himself

Last nights gig was cool. Only a handful of people showed in the back room but that became a more intimate setting and we were able to address the people on a one to one basis and had a lot of fun with it. Wound up playing a few extra tunes we would normally wouldn't play at a venue like this, which was a lot of fun. The guy who owned the restaurant liked us so much, he asked us to come back to do a set on Halloween. The promoter was all over us saying "you guys were really excellent and a lot of fun" Plus they fed us some killer food and wine. Win Win!
