First show at the new club was great place was packed owners were happy and the people stay all night! Had to go through two to DWI checks on the way home one in the town local police the second one coming off the NJTwp State Troopers I do not drink so no problem for me or any of my band glad to say. Another show tonight always a great place for us!

Gig two was great! The place was packed, the room sounded the best I had ever heard it! I got there around 7:45pm for a load time of 8 It just started to rain as I found parking. Small area for the band still can't figure out how we fit all of our gear in there but somehow we get it done? Band was tight as he88 and we rocked the place till 1AM. getting home was another story rain here in NJ turned into a heavy, heavy blinding rain non stop and it was flooding the roads quick! So it was a white knuckle ride on the highway all the way home I was glad to get off the highway and on to the side streets which were just flooding a little so I made it home okay got in the house around 2:30AM normally would have been home by 2AM. Gig on Sat this weekend in Clifton always a rocking place for us so I am looking forward to it big time!

Just got back from a really fun gig. I'd played with the drummer and guitarist before, but not the girl singer or the keyboards player (who was a total demon!), and we'd had no opportunity to rehearse as this was the first time we'd all played or even met up together. We sorted the set out pretty much by email. But it was plenty tight and we went down a storm with the crowd. Fun stuff, especially as I'm 49 (today!) and the rest of the band are between 20 and 24.

I used my usual Markbass 210 combo and took the 115 extension cab because I knew this would be a loud gig, and it was. I can't be bothered taking pedals out with me nowadays and my Korg Pandora, velcroed to the top of my rig, did the job just fine. I used an octave effect on a couple of numbers and some mild compression for the slap stuff. My Warmoth/Status graphite neck Jazz bass had some new Hi Beams on it, a D-Tuner I fitted some time last year and the awesome J-Retro. I really loved the sound I was getting and it reminded me that yes, it is possible to be totally happy with the gear you're using sometimes.

Played my first back of a truck gig on the weekend, at a car show in Western Sydney, also a first for the other guys in the band. First time with a sound desk and full PA too, it sounded awesome! Can't wait for the next one!!

We played a 50th birthday party Saturday as an MTV "unplugged" style gig. Starting at 6pm, the band leader/singer/guitarist and his wife/singer/flautist started with him on accordian (?) with what the party girl expected. Apparently she didn't expect a 5 piece classic rock band and we were getting glares 30 minutes later playing so soft, I could hear my strings over the amplified and we have a pretty good set of mellow tunes.

BL starts the 2nd set and says "White Room" and its on. Apparently, enough alcohol had been consumed to start the dancing, husband participating in Black Magic Woman on Congas. 3rd set includes Badge/Let It Rain and we start packing at 10:01.

Party Girl comes over at 10:10 and says "it looks like you're leaving?" Talked to the boss. Lead guitarist was all packed in, drummer all broke down. We played another hour including party girl's husband on acoustic "House of the Rising Sun" Drummer using only a bass/snare/hi hat, lead player on BLs Telecaster w/o effects, and BL on his acoustic. A little Marshall Tucker, Stairway to Heaven, etc.

Passed a couple of police cruisers on our way out of the neighborhood at 11:45!

Okay we played one of our favorite places to play, We had a packed house. I got there around 8:20 for an 8:30 load in which was done by 9:00. Show time was 9:30 so I had time to tweak some stuff. I play through a Bose L1 with 3 subs. I've been working on getting more thunder during our videos that we record nearly every show. I use a bass driver into the L1 normally set to SVT which sounds great but, wasn't hitting the recordings as I had hoped. So I decided Sat night to try a different setting so I set up the bass driver for of all things "Reggae" and added a compressor to the mix and the drummer and I played off each other so the video could be recorded and I could check it out in headphones and there it was the thundering bass I knew I was getting but now hitting the recordings as well. So I was pretty stoked for the show now! The bass was kick'n butt all night I had the volume on my Fender P set to 4 nearly all night because 10 would have taken down the walls! I kicked up to 6 during the chorus and leads. I haven't had the chance to post to my youtube channel but when I do, I will copy the link here. I have a sub woofer on my computer in my home studio and it was just shaken the place, I just love the bottom!
We finished the night with two extra songs and was home by 2:20AM. No shows till Sept 9 taken time off to get old ha ha ha . here is the Doors Roadhouse Blues little bass fill (solo) I throw in at 3:19 on the video

I've waited two years to be able to post in this thread.

7:00 tonight, my band takes the stage for the first time. Nothing big -- a set during a dragon boat race. Playing for free (because it's raising money for cancer research), but we're part of a pretty decent lineup. May only get to play for 45 minutes, and there's a chance nobody will be watching us... but who cares about that?

My first gig is in a little over three hours. Too busy to be nervous.

Rocking Sat night black cloud place as I call it! No rain this time but the power went out on the Keys and guitarist side of the stage again! this has happen to us before big screen tv is the problem. So they had the power back on we unplugged it! And checking in after... we got on a half hour late thanks to a bad schedule, and followed an 80s cover band that packed the dance floor. Our music isn't the most danceable, so we cleared the floor by the third song. :)

The gig had everything you could expect, from an indifferent crowd, to the drunken women requesting KISS. (Seriously, there was four of us on stage, why did they come up to talk to me? Is it because I was the best looking?)

Still, we played well, and it was a great first step. Got compliments from the band following, which is always nice.

Playing a 25-year reunion show tonight. At age 16, I was in a punk band with my older brother and his friends. I was planning a trip home to Chicago, and thought it might be fun to get the band back together, just like Jake & Elwood.

The drummer backed out at the last minute (we found a replacement who's practiced with us once -- last night), and it turns out my brother has completely forgotten how to play guitar and/or sing. :help: Fortunately, the other guitarist and I have put some effort into it, so we may be able to churn out a passable set.

Funny thing about the drummer: it's a 25-year reunion show, and he's only 22.

I will say that Facebook has been instrumental in this gig, both in getting the band back together and inviting old friends. I realized last night that we never even considered making fliers, which was always a must back in the day.

Anyway, if you're in the neighborhood tonight, we'll be at Quenchers, Fullerton & Western. I'll be the one playing bass.

Gig tonight for a restaurants anniversary... they have a history of having live entertainment so often... usually a decent crowd going off what the band has told me from their last gig there... were pulling in as many as we can on this one as well.

I got a new to me bass and Line 6 ld300 rig ... can't wait to gig it. Just chillin at the moment ... got a few hours before loading upstarts.

That being said... as im typing this im getting that pre-rollercoaster feeling...

Heading out to get set up for a big 7 band benefit show to help keep the doors of a local venue opened here in a few hours. I was actually one of the promoters who set the thing up, and we're looking to pull in a few hundred folks... which will be my band's biggest show to date. We generally draw 50-100, so we're pretty excited to be playing to twice our usual audience and hopefully gain some new fans. Since we did all the work setting the thing up, booking the bands/venue, flyering, promoting, etc we put ourselves smack dab in the middle of the lineup, after the other local bands but before the touring acts (who are all in one way or another related back to our local scene and have a strong connection to the venue we're trying to save). I'll check back after the show with a gig report for anyone interested in DIY type stuff.
