First show with my new band tomorrow! Daytime show at a local tavern/restaurant. We have about 3 hours of music (all covers) and we are playing *all* of it. I've even told them I plan to play a solo! (I wrote one - 8 bars of awesome. :bassist: )

Gig went well. A few glitches but no trains wrecks, by anybody, and that's over three hours of playing. Didn't get to do the solo I wrote so I took a solo the next song and improvised. It was pitiful, but I did it.

Sound was remarkably good given that we were outside and using all our own gear (i.e. no house p.a.) and barely did a sound check.

The crowd seemed to have a good time. People said we sounded great. I had a lot of fun, and I think my bandmates all did too.

This marks the kickoff of our 3-week, 3-neighborhood tour. Berkeley, North Berkeley, and the Berkeley Hills! On the road! Rock n roll, babies! :bassist:

Heading out to get set up for a big 7 band benefit show to help keep the doors of a local venue opened here in a few hours. I was actually one of the promoters who set the thing up, and we're looking to pull in a few hundred folks... which will be my band's biggest show to date. We generally draw 50-100, so we're pretty excited to be playing to twice our usual audience and hopefully gain some new fans. Since we did all the work setting the thing up, booking the bands/venue, flyering, promoting, etc we put ourselves smack dab in the middle of the lineup, after the other local bands but before the touring acts (who are all in one way or another related back to our local scene and have a strong connection to the venue we're trying to save). I'll check back after the show with a gig report for anyone interested in DIY type stuff.

Ok, this went pretty well. Ended up with just a bit over 100 paying guests, so a bit lower than we expected... but we were under a tornado watch and a huge storm passed by just missing us by 15 or 20 miles, so I'm guessing that deterred some folks from coming out. We still made the out of town bands about $60 in tip money to help cover the gas for the drive down, even though we donated all of the door money directly to the venue. Everyone seemed to have a good time and there were nothing but good vibes the whole night.

Gig couple blocks from the house Friday night. Usually a good crowd when we perform there however, the owner has no bands all summer and only brings back the rock n roll in the fall and winter months so this is our first show since April. Not sure how that affects the crowd. I think it would have a negative affect on a place I go to see rock and then they shut it down the whole summer? I am guessing people would find a new place to hang for their music? But we will get our people in there and do what we can do to pack the place.

If you're in the Stamford, CT area tonight swing by Casey's Tavern at 10pm. I'll be doing a quick set with my singer/guitarist. It's basically an open mic night that he runs, so we get to go on first and get things started.

If you're feeling saucy, bring your instrument and join in.

Gig tomorrow nite. They are having the local Fall Art Festival in town and they block of the streets for a couple of days, set up a big stage and have bands playing all weekend. Headliner on the big stage tomorrow nite is Modern English. We are playing in a venue down the street a little ways. We play there once a month and it's a great place to play, good size, good stage, always a good crowd there, but it will be packed tomorrow nite for the festival. Wall to wall people for sure, looking forward to it big time!

The gig was okay. I wasn't pleased with my performance. Flubbed a few notes in the covers we played, but nailed the originals. My backup singing was off as well and I ended up psyching myself out during one of them enough to just stop :)

I ran direct to the PA, so that made things easy loading in and out with only my gig bag. I did 4 songs with my singer/guitarist and hung out for a little while. I got a bunch of compliments on my playing & tone from all the musicians in the crowd, which is always a welcome surprise...especially when you personally think it didn't go so well.

One drunk guy kept yelling "Good job bass player!" which was also rather amusing.

Okay even though it was raining like mad the people still came out to support! We rocked the place and they were up for every song! After the show I spoke to the Owner who was happy so much so he gave us another date but one he had booked with another band so they are being moved and we are in their slot. As I had mention it is my home town and I know a lot of the people who hang in the club so it is close to home done by 1 home by 1:15 sweet! if you want to check out vids from that night and others gigs my you tube channel is phoenixnj13 comment if you stop in. Got two gigs This week Friday and Sat both are new places one is a road trip and the other is more local either way I will check in after the gigs

Alright played last night in the Stanhope house in Stanhope,NJ where many great blues artist have played in the best Stevie Ray, Johhny Winter, and so many others in fact Matt guitar Murphy from the Blues Brothers band is there tonight and next week Johnny Winter is playing there so a cool place.It was raining most of the trip up there so Route 80 was a parking lot. I got there in time for set up only to find we were delayed starting because other bands couldn't make it in time so instead of a 8PM we started a 9:30 show went well owner said we were great and bought us drinks and asked us back got out a 2 home by 2:29 playing again tonight another new place should be fun here is a vid from last night Honky Tonk more bluesy than normal Stanhope house THE PHOENIXBAND.AVI - YouTube

Funny moment on stage last night... playing "Velha infancia" by Os Tribalistas. I don't speak Portuguese but the singer does. The song has the same chord pattern in the verses and refrain, so I didn't really know where the refrain is. Then at one point about a dozen people in the crowd suddenly started singing along loudly, and I was like "oh... so that's the refrain!"

Friday night at a club in South Carolina, last set, we got to interact with a gentleman who was literally falling-down drunk. He made five tries at coming up to the bandstand, as best I can tell to express his appreciation for our performance. Each time, just as he reached the lip of the stage, he fell. Fell like a tree. I think he may have broken a tooth on the keyboard player's mike stand, not that he'd have known. He even fell down trying to get out the door, after explaining to the wait staff that he'd actually had too much to drink and had to go home. We offered a cab, but he said he was walking.

The next afternoon we played at a fund-raiser for Ronald McDonald House. It was held at a huge Harley-Davidson dealership, so lots of bikes and bikers, and a barbecue contest. We were the second of three acts; I saw one of the guys from the opening band checking out Ronald, and saying "Next time we should put it in our rider: No clowns."

Man I miss playing bass. Haven't had a bass gig since May.

As it so happened, I ended up sitting in with 2 other bands on the bill that night on guitar, so I ended up playing more guitar than bass, even though I played bass in my side band that played.
