Alternatively, since this is a "Best offer" auction, we could all offer $1, then $2, then $3 just to fill up this donkey's inbox.

I reported this listing to ebay and would suggest everyone does the same. The guy listing it is obviously a total d- nozzle who is playing the odds that this sells before it is reported (and if not it is basically free to list so he will keep listing it).

Please-- report him and people of his ilk to keep them off of ebay, I say.

or "Fraudulent Listing"?

I'm all for reporting it whichever way is better.

I used "fraudulent listing", subheading "you suspect the listing is fraudulent, you didn't bid" and in the comments box simply stated that the item is not the brand he claims it is.

This bass appears to have a Fodera bridge. OK. The seller said that someone used it in the 70's... The problem with that info is that Fodera was established in 1983 and custom bridges for those basses probably weren't made until that year as well.

The funny/sad thing is, if he had listed it as a vintage custom/parts bass with a koa body, a vintage ESP neck, a Fodera bridge, and (charitably here) a Fodera preamp, and had a starting bid of just a few hundred, then people would be like "OMG lookit that sweet bass!!!"

The early 1983s have EMG pickups, glued in set necks, and figured tops with 24 fret necks. There are ads with Percy Jones playing the fretless versions in 1983. Someone needs to forward this to Vinnie and Joey. This is hysterical....

I love threads like this. It appears that many of you feel it is not unlikely but IMPOSSIBLE for this bass to have been built by Vinnie Fodera. The only way I would hold that belief to be undeniably true would be confirmation from Vinny. Did Vinny declare it a fake?

He could've gotten the years it was used wrong... or is that too impossible?

Did Vinny only build his first bass after he officially started his company? We (should) know that he bulit instruments prior to that.


Not that I'm trying to derail a witchhunt. It'll be interesting to see the reactions if Vinny actually had something to do with this bass.

My guess is the seller was led to believe it's a valuable Fodera, doesn't have any idea what it is, and got fleeced himself as a result.

And it has a Bart P pickup with exposed pole pieces. Two more things that appear wrong with the description.

That still doesn't mean Vinny couldn't have made it.
