That is gorgeous. I had a T-45 for a while, but the neck wasn't perfect, it was on the heavy side and it didn't sound different enough from my other basses to keep it. If it'd been more like the bass you made I'd probably still own it. Nicely done.

This. Keep the original guard and get a large format pickup to cover it up. Rout a swimming pool into the body for any future experiments.

This is true. A mid to late 80s Peavey Fury started life as a well made, mid level bass that was brand shamed/bargained binned through the late 90s/early 2000s and now is recognized for the bang for the buck quality it always had. 80s ones are rising in value to a hefty $250-300 zone! Those comparison basses were $200 (new) entry level basses from the get go.


If I came across that bass, I would have done the same thing by haggling it down to as close to $100 as possible. It's a solid platform for making an interesting player bass. I have a Super Ferrite and pickup ring laying around, I would be tempted to drop that in there and have a virtual single coil P bass/1st gen G&L SB-1.
The world doesn't necessarily need another P bass derivative, but can always use a resurrection from a low-to-no budget hack job. No harm done modding a split coil Fury.
I did this to a $75 80s Ibanez RB630. Got a replacement guard, a T40 pickup, P knobs and Wilde Q filter. Push/pull coil split on the tone control. Virtual T45. Sounds and plays like a boss.

Thank you, guys. I'm really happy how it turned out. I had the P bass thing covered already, and this beat up player was mostly sitting idle. I really wanted a T45, but the one in/one out rule applies. I knew I already liked this Ibanez enough to not want to get rid of it, and the price of a T45 is much more than $100 in parts and couple hours time to modify an existing bass to be tonally and functionally a clone.

I own both an '82 T-40 and an '83 T-45 and I am drool over your creation!

Check out what I found at a pawnshop $160. I thought about offering way less for a project but I don’t know how they handle hanggeling, but it would be fun to play with I guess, But it might just have to stay there, I guess could use the neck if anything.

Who remembers pawn shops in the eighties?
I live in east Tn.and in the early-mid eighties,I would regularly find sixties fenders for 350 400 bucks.Seems that right before and in the beginning of the big blues explosion,they were just considered (old)basses.Some of us knew better .
