It really is hard to go too far wrong with a US made Peavey.
That said, I think $160 is too much for that one.
At 50-60 I'd grab it up.
100 might still be reasonable.
A new PG and pickup might set you back another 100.
200 for a minty one would be good, so you'd be able to break even if you sold it.

Being a hot rodder, I'd be very tempted to hack the PG further and add a larger pickup.
Dark Star, MM, mudbucker, double J... hey a VFL would 'keep it in the family'!
Lots of choices there.
Don't overlook pickups that use a mounting ring.
They can hide gaps.

Going down that road probably means not having the option of breaking even on a resale,
but does open the door to an interesting player.

Don't know name of color, some kind of matte blue I suppose. Road worn look from factory. Bought it from same pawnshop that his cousin came to me via Mexico for $230.

Take the average selling price on Reverb, subtract the cost of a new pick guard, a new pick guard and another $100 if the body underneath the pick guard was hacked. I’m guessing that’s a very low number, possibly in the negatives. I’d pass and buy something else.

Haggle the price all they can do is say no. And then you say what is the least you would take for this bass and point out the flaws. The sale person already knows it is over price because he will get a commission on the sale. Good luck

I have a patriot of that vintage. Neck is 1.75" wide but way thinner front to back than a p bass. They tend to play nice. Shame some ripped out the super ferrite pickup though.

They should throw in a real bass pickup for free with whatever deal you make with them. Tell the guy no is going to buy it with a guitar pickup installed

That was my first bass, same color and everything. It came with a “super ferrite” pickup(mine did anyway). If you could find the pickup for sale it would probably be close to what the bass is worth I’d guess.

That could be an interesting direction. The first generation of Furys had a Super Ferrite pup from the Foundation, but slanted like the T-20. It wasn't until the late 80s that Furys started using split coils. So, you could find an SF and 1st gen Fury guard. Replacements are available online.

Well everyone, e bastard of a bass is in my possecion. I tried walking away but the thought of it couldnt really leave so easy, It will be a really of a fun project in my mind. At first they were dead set on not haggling - at all and I did walk away a few times and thought it over, whatever possessed me to go back is unknown but I did and I was able to walk out with it for $100 atleast there was no shipping charge. I have wanted a fury for a little while, and this ones a project I’m going to try to put a t40 style pickup in there. I’ll keep y’all updated for sure

It's an original USA model, I wouldn't go more than $75.00. Look at the neck and make sure it's straight and check that the truss rod works. Those used a special neck wrench from Peavey that prevented damage to the nut in the event there was a problem. With a good pickup and better bridge, that could be a killer bass.
