Bought one about 15 years ago in Boca Raton, FL for $35 at a Pawn Shop. They were asking $125. Cleaned it up and donated it to a lady at church who was taking lessons on another bass I owned. It was actually worth more once I reset strings and intonation. Again, in FL 15 years ago.

That was my first bass, same color and everything. It came with a “super ferrite” pickup(mine did anyway). If you could find the pickup for sale it would probably be close to what the bass is worth I’d guess.
Mine was solid. Assuming yours is you could get another pick guard and pickup and having looking and sounding good again. It wouldn’t be worth what you put into it. If that bothers you then you really should be on talkbass.

in this condition, it's not really a steal... but it's certainly not a ripoff at $160.

this one is really left to - how bad do you want it and how bad do you want to keep your $160?

Check out what I found at a pawnshop $160. I thought about offering way less for a project but I don’t know how they handle hanggeling, but it would be fun to play with I guess, But it might just have to stay there, I guess could use the neck if anything.

I wouldn’t automatically associate any of those basses with an 80’s US made Peavey. I’m not saying they aren’t better values but they definitely aren’t the same kinda stuff, imo anyway.

I found one similar, but sunburst. All original and not beat up. Had a knob missing. the pawn shop was at $200. I offered $100 & got it for $125. One of the best sounding and playing basses I have, but it's a little heavy.

No, I get it.
I just wouldn't pay $160 as is unless I could get them to come down. I would tell them that I would have to dump at least a $100+ into it to get it to play. Which wouldn't be far off, $60 to $100 for a pickup of your choice, $30+ for a pickguard. I was just saying if one needed a playing bass there are others in that range. But if it's just because it's a US Peavey, I'd still start at $60.

Don't know. i called, gave them serial and they shipped the pg. call them. They are really helpful.

If I was bored, I'd offer 50 bucks and make a project out of it. With that hack pickup job who knows what else was done. On the plus side... the truss rod cover isn't missing, and it's got one of the better string trees.

I pick up beat up foundations for around a hundred bucks. IMO they're a better bass.
