Check out what I found at a pawnshop $160. I thought about offering way less for a project but I don’t know how they handle hanggeling, but it would be fun to play with I guess, But it might just have to stay there, I guess could use the neck if anything.

What do y’all think about this poor lil guy

It's a good price. Depending upon where you live, it might be a very good price. For cash on the barrelhead most pawn shops will haggle. My first Peavey -- a well maintained Foundation with case -- was a pawn shop prize i haggled down $40, and that was my introduction to Peaveys. I find I quite like Peaveys.

They tend to be well made. Obviously this one needs some help and finding a pickguard can be tough (or expensive if you have one made). Looks like there is a guitar pickup wired in as half the p pickup. Considering what it needs $160 is high in my opinion (although your area can make a difference).

It's probably a worthy project and with an investment of time and parts could be a nice player. I'd shoot for cheaper and justify it with the butchered pickguard and pickup. Offer $65-$75 in the hopes of ending up at $100

Bring cash, cash is king at a pawnshop.
Beat up anything like that PG for example. If the tuners are not right, etc...

Don’t be blindsided by the ‘ol “well that’s less than I have in it”. - you know the answer to that one; just say as politely as possible as to not sound like a smart alec, that you can’t help that the pawnshop over-paid for something that’s only worth what it’s worth.

I do like peavey a whole lot, I have a t40 that I love - and if I could hack it up a little more and use a t40 pickup it would be perfect. But I’d probably bring it back - it seemed to play nice enough - I’ll keep y’all updated

Is the neck straight?
Does the truss rod turn?
Do you need another bass?

It's not just the pick guard, that's the wrong half of the pickup in there too. I'd stay away from this one.

Well, you’d have to factor in the price of a new pickup and possibly pickguard depending on your ocd levels.

T40 PU is a cool idea, still need to address the pickguard somehow.

My decision would be based on one thing one.

How does it PLAY?

Everything else can be fixed. You can find a deal on any number of pickups here at TB. You could slap an MM or soapbar in the existing hole (routed out more, of course) and not even have to replace the guard.

The pain shop likely has no idea about the pickup. Google up a pic of one that's right and show them the difference, and the hack job. You'll be able to walk out for $100 or less.

If it plays like a champ, I say go for it. If it were me, I would put a MM style pickup in it and wire it to a 3 way switch for single/series/parallel. Leave the volume and tone. Then rock that puppy.

Peavey had these pickguards available a few years back, I bought one. There are two versions, flat bottomed like that one and one more rounded.
Put in a decent P pickup, and these are great little axes.
Little work or investment for a good player instrument.
Last time I knew, about $250 for a sound one, even with new parts well worth it.
