Can't wait to see your Non-Lakie-Chi!
Yes...I'd like to see it too!
Hey guys, I appologize in advance, I'm a lakland enthusiast/customer that is just a little bit out of the loop. I have a 55-02 and a DJ5 with J retro that I purchased new from steve barr at the Dudepit a long time ago before all the drama and when it was a really good forum.
Anyway, about the time the new Hanson preamp came out and during the developement of the Chisonics, I was away from the message boards. I've recently come back on in the last couple of years and find myself really out of the loop regarding all the developements Lakland has made.
I'm planning to send my DJ5 to Lakland to have them look at the neck and possibly get a PLEK job. I'm really curious about the Chi sonic pickups now. What could I expect from my DJ5 soundwise going from Aero pu's/J retro to Chi sonics?
The ChiSonics have a greater frequency range. They are more open and clear, but they can be very angry when played hard. The J style Chisonics are thicker that standard J pickups too. I feel they are the perfect pickup. I have them in all my basses. Listen to some of the sound clips on the Lakland site with some good headphones, and you can hear the difference.
Ok, very cool. Does anyone have experience with Chi sonics with the J Retro pre? Also, does Lakland have other active pre options for the DJ5 now other than the J retro?
I love that bass.
I also love my second Chi'd bass!
