Child Restraints?? Really???

+1
Over-regulation demeans us by insulting our intelligence. It robs us of dignity, as it is meant to do.

I was in an airport bar in Salt Lake, awaiting a connecting flight, when this great old cowboy stepped up to the bar. He was eighty if he was a day, but when he ordered a NON-ALCOHOLIC BEER, the bartenders requested ID.
And when I complained on Pop's behalf, as is my surly wont, I was met with major stinkeye and "Yer not a terrorist, are you, Pal?" after-glances. It is a racket, I tell ya. Junior's helmet included.
I just take it how it's meant to be seen... An attempt to improve safety. On the flip side, might we not complain if some of those same safety devices and regs were not in place and made available?

Also, you would tell us if you were a terrorist, right? I mean, it's just us...

I have muddied the waters by generalizing and by being overly rhetorical, I admit. However I see little good in my example of an old man obliged to produce his papers for no reasonable human purpose save to make an old lion bow. Ymmv but I was appalled.

Your kids are yours, and nobody not in your family has, or should have a damn thing to say about how you raise them, so don't let a scowl or snarky comment from some busybody, "always offended" neighbor bother you.

I have an opinion on the bike helmet thing, but since your kids aren't any of my business, I'll just leave it to your good judgement.

No. It was quite easy after reading your first post.

You will be pleased to know that my four children. Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, two children in our care that are being adopted are all quite safe in my care, well adjusted and doing just fine..... If you need your merit and goodwill determined for for you. So be it. Questioning my parental abilities is a fools game. I wrote this somewhat in jest. You made it personal. I suggest you cease and desist. Please.

I read no jest or humor in your rant. I am voicing my opinion after reading that you think young children should be hurt to learn a lesson as well as vehicle safety equipment and bike helmets are improperly imposed upon your lifestyle.

We both have our opinions and I stated mine. Perhaps I should apologize for using the word "dumb".

I would agree you owe OP an apology, as calling someone 'dumb' is pure ad hominem attack, even when the inspiration is found in the opponents own self-depricating screen name. And the fact that OP can boast of such a large multi-generational broood proves that he is not a negligent parent as you infer in your ad hominem attack, but rather proves he has done just fine in getting his kids to survive through to adulthood.

I do apologize for using that word, but not for loathing the irresponsible OP attitude.

Nothing you’ve said changes the backward, cave man thought process being portrayed. I guess we should all just agree with his risky ways so we can get along nicely. Even at the risk of injury.

^I call straw man^ - Thou shall not misrepresent or exaggerate a person’s argument in order to make them easier to attack.

The fact that the OP stated it was a rant (to me) implies jest and humor, but we all know those things don't always translate well in written word, depending on one's mood it could very well be perceived differently on different days. On the whole I agree with the OP that we do not need the government micro-managing our lives.
