I dunno man, but you're right. Some songs are great, I really like 'em. But there are others that I am not so keen on...
EDIT: I will say that after listening through the album a few times, it has grown on me a little.

Supremacy sounds nothing like Queen...
Oh well. I thought the album was a really fresh approach, but was a little fragmented. Some songs could be longer, like Liquid State, but so far nothing stands out as a really bad song. Everyone I have talked to hates Madness, but I actually like it. The approach is interesting, and the song is really not bad at all. Isolated System is my least favorite, but I know it'll grow on me.

Madness sounds so much like I want to break free that it has to be a pastiche/rip off. Supremacy sounds like the Innuendo album with effects pedals.

Agreed about the Queen statement. Supremacy is the first song on the new album that I dig.
Damn it. If they just wouldn't have added that dub step bull crap in the other songs, I'd be happy.

I love Panic Station. Unsustainable and Isolated System are my favourite tracks on it. I really like Liquid State too.

The breakdown in Animals reminds me a lot of the one in Invincible.

I have this album on straight through rotation with some others, and I must say this album gets better and better with each listen. As a whole, it is a great album. If you hate one song or the other, that is too bad. Madness used to be the "***" song in my head, but in the context of the album, it fits, and is a great song.
I love it, though Explorers is a little off to me.

To be fair, the votes on the on this site have doubled and the rating has gone up by 0.25% to 2.14. With another 1000 votes or so it might get to 3 out of 5...

On the new album... when I heard Madness my first thought was boy this sounds like U2 (not the instrumentation, the arrangement). Not something I'd listen to all the time but from someone who normally hates their electronic tunes I thought it was decent... and now I'm gassing for a Kitara. I liked panic station and supremacy... it seems like with most Muse albums it will have to grow on me.
When I heard survivalism, all I could think was man... these guys are bored. I think most popular bands eventually reach a point in their career where they evolve and either get better over time or become so weird only the die hards can stand to listen to them.

It's kinda close, but it is not the effect. You can't get clean 1/8th notes at that speed, and so it freaks out.
I did the same thing, but it is 100% Kitara.
I'll start by saying I've been a Muser for a couple years already. The last album IS different, but Muse has radically changed their sound for EACH album (I'm insisting on BHAR here) they made, so I knew this one would be different. However, they managed to make The 2nd Law my favourite album of all time. Because they picked their good ol' Muse, and as they did for every albums, put something absolutely surreal into it.
What's so special about Muse is that, they are a band that goes FORWARD. They create new things, they have their own style, they are not, for example, inspired by ''the good old 70s'' or by ''David Gilmour's guitar sound''. They just... revolution the way music is made.
I really freakin' love them.
So, yeah, quit with the fight, already. I hate arguments.

It's a shame Kaputsport deleted all of his posts to me. I thought we had an interesting debate taking place that others might find interesting (which is surely the whole point of a forum), instead it now looks like I'm talking to myself.
Bad reviews or no for the new album, they sold out Madison Square Garden in about two minutes. I had to wait for them to add a second show to get tickets.
And, really, I like it. The songs are far more different dynamically and structurally from each other, which hearkens back to Absolution (my all-time favorite album of theirs.) The Resistance and especially Black Holes and Revelations were a little more monotone.
But, honestly, while I think The Resistance is their weakest album, I've liked all of them. And it's great to see a bassist so up front in the mix, being an integral part of the band's sound.
Also, I can't get Panic Station out of my head...
