I remember "Feels so Good" back in the day.
Steve Gadd and Tony Levin soloing in Chuck's band.
Aw, man! He was a cool dude.

Man... a co-worker and I were just talking about Ozzy, the Hulkster, and how it will seem like the domino effect with one legend after another moving on in rapid succession for a brief time. Looks as though it's continuing as it always has.
R.I.P Mr. Mangione. My kids will forever be indebted to you for "Feels So Good", especially as dad meow trumpets it loudly for the 6 a.m. revele.

I was playing in a Top 40 band years ago when he came in to the club after a concert. Despite being bushed, he graciously sat in with us when we asked.
Nice guy, and funny too.
Here he is playing some bebop early on in his career with Art Blakey and a 21 year old Keith Jarrett.

This song showed up on setlists around Christmases in the '70's, Alphonso Johnson on bass.
Mangione always had a killer in the bass chair.
He also was a big part of ushering in "smooth jazz" before it really got watered down, I always dug his music.

Very sad. I saw Chuck at an outdoor concert years ago. Loved "Feels So Good". Godspeed, Chuck.

sad news for sure....just a few days ago my brother bought me a trumpet for a retirement gift...some kind of omen to re-live and re-build my grade 7 chops

I was telling some friends recently that his music (« Feels so good » of course) was my first introduction to jazz many decades ago when it played as an interlude between tv shows.

Chuck Mangione was my first concert I went to as a teenager back in the early 80's. I had a lot of fun.
