Club Alleva Coppolo (Part 10!)

way OT but this is funny to me..

Oh yes.. i swear it on a stack of Alleva Coppolos.. really!
I was on a tour. doing some rooms about 5000.. not arenas but large theaters... one of the BG singers was having issues with her monitor.. and asked why they couldn't MIC it like the guitar amp were... SERIOUSLY.. There were 4 BG singers and she was the youngest.. the others were all pros two of which did a Mick Jagger tour etc.

So mr monitor man put a 57 in front of her monitor with a cable running off to monitor land but not connected to anything... you have no idea what a cruel amount of laughter came from inside of me..;)

The same singer was having issues with her wireless mic on week.. and we were having issues with her pitch.. They were all Vega mics.. fairly expensive in the wireless type..
And they all had a foam windscreen on them.. Well the same monitor guy set up the other singers with the normal setup.. but oh hers he put a windscreen on the end of a MAGLITE and put it in her mic clip...
And you guys wonder where i get my sick sense of humor from. i grew up with theses guys...
Needless to say she only lasted a bout 2 weeks. she was family to management and thats why she got the job at first..

All factual stuff.. I have hundreds of stories even better than that one.. one day i will need to put out a R&R pranks book out.. someone else will need to type it, since that is not my forte.:)

I never asked his name nor saw him at another gig I think it was his first and last appearance behind the board...
if I remember correctly we were at the Mercury Lounge down on Houston in the village and some time around 96-98?

I heard a story, supposedly 100% factual, about a well-known female singer who asked an engineer why her voice couldn't go through a DI like the keys, bass, etc.? This happened fairly recently.. who tf was it?

My bad. I knew I saw a sadowsky headstock somewhere onstage. Also knew he had received an AC.

I love this kind of stuff - brings back the memories it does! Used to work for a bit with a very energetic guy that couldn't quite get around the limitations of a mic cord. Minor mishaps were a common occurrance, but one magical evening totally hogtied himself in the middle of a jump/spin/pirouette combo and completely wiped out the drum kit. The drummer punched his lights out between sets, and we finished off the evening with the guitarist and I sharing vocal duties on the longest Springsteen medley you've ever heard - thank God we had a sax player!

Ahhh... the glories of the road. :hiding:

I can see it... it wasn't an Elvis impersonator was it.. that would be even funnier.. that is very funny...I wish we had all this stuff on video...

Actually we were playing the Blossom Center. I forgot where it was. Columbus, maybe... and he was dare deviling on the wood roof supports with a bike ,,and broke his arm the next day.. he had to go home .. but we did talk about that one for a long time... him breaking his arm was pretty funny too.. Not for him,, you really had to be there to get the vision of an accident that was actually funny... I think that is where Jackass got most of their ideas.. i almost wet myself.. that funny..:eek::)

Hey Jason, I know you're busy with Dreamgirls and all, but I see you're going to be at my school next week. I saw the flyer for "Life After Berklee". I'm really looking forward to it. Will you be performing at all, or is it more like a Q&A?

Hey Joe ... It will be a little bit of both ... Q&A and a playing a few grooves with a drummer and then as a gtr trio.
I'll also be in Danny Morris' bass studies class today (thurs) from 2-4, 1140 building, room 2E.
Please come introduce yourself !!!

Jason, I'd love to go to the class today. Danny Morris is my private instructor, I lucked out in getting him my first semester. Unfortunately I have a crap load of projects adding up and tearing me away from fun and even practicing my own instrument, haha. I'll be there for Tuesday, though. It's right after my ensemble class. Looking forward to meeting you.

Yeah Jonno, I know Whit's still there, but I haven't actually met him yet. When did you study with Whit, Jonno?

I'm really looking forward to hearing Jason's playing as well as his LG in a live mix. I've only had a chance to play an LM5 at low volumes solo (thanks again Ian). I think besides being first and foremost educational and inspiring, will also give me a great idea of what they sound like in a performance setting.

I've been beating myself up over whether to get a new LG5 or this '66 P Bass I've recently fallen in love with. I know that in the future, professionally I'll need a fiver when called upon, but that P Bass has been haunting my dreams.
