Ughhh; you're killing me
JUST finished thinking that nitro or standard Fender colors couldn't add anything to the price and that blocks and binding would only add a few hundred $$!
Spent some time on the Carvin site today; needless to say, they can offer options for much less than others.

Suddenly waiting for a used A-C looks more realistic; at least until the kids college fund is more developed

Got a chance to play Big Redd Too today. Ian was kind enough to swing by my place before band practice. I was really overwhelmed by the setup, fretwork, and general feel of this bass. I understand all the hoopla now.

I'm pretty sure I'm leaning towards an LM5. I have a 64 Custom Shop Jazz with Lindy Fralins that I think cops the 60's jazz thing pretty well. I need a 5 in my stable and really want a different tonal flavor.

Did anyone see any LM5 Basics or Standards at NAMM? The ones I see look more like the Deluxe versions. Would love to be able to pick something up soon, but more than likely will place an order in a couple of weeks.

Two more things, KJung, do you have those clips you did handy? Could you post them again in the new thread? And I just wanted to thank Ian again for taking the time out and swinging by. We'll have to hang again soon.

One more... here's the RA5 that I had for a while (the new owner digs it!)... same rig (TecAmp), DR Hi Beams:

You can really hear the difference between the aggressive upper mid grind and brightness and aggressiveness of the LM, and the smoother tone of the RA, with the more pure, sizzly top end and warmer, slightly more compressed low end.

Listened to these clips and the RA. They all sound great. Still leaning towards a LM5 but the LG5 has me second guessing myself. Both super desirable sounds. I'm going to go beat my head against the wall! :eek:

FYI - For those that may be new to Alleva-Coppolo and this new thread here is how the models lay out:

LG - alder / rosewood 60s spacing - 60s style jazz bass
RA - alder / maple 70s spacing (optional rosewood board) typical early 70s jazz
LM - Ash / Maple 70s spacing (optional rosewood boad) late 70s style jazz
KBP - P bass

I'm in for part 10.

Pic from Jimmy's old shop. He happened to have it in stock when I called. Jimmy was nice enough to give it for a trial. Needless to say I kept it and ordered the KBP-5 a month later. It was the last bass I've purchased. The LG gets most of the play but I'm going to work the KBP into an up coming country band.

Thanks - His website is not quite descriptive yet. Couldn't understand what the acronyms meant.

No problem Joe! It was my pleasure and I am really glad that you dug the bass. Every time I play it I just get happier with it. Sorry I didn't get to stick around longer, but we will definitely have to hang again soon and get some jamming going. Let me know how your AC adventure goes.
