Club Alleva Coppolo (Part 11!)

Played my LM5 for the first time on gig with my LM II and Berg AE410 and pure heaven looks like my next purchase more than likely will be a LM 4.Thought I would like a LG4 but have a set of Jimmys pickups coming I will put in my Suhr Classic Jazz which sounds good as is but think the AC,s will be the icing on the Cake!Who knows my even get some for my Sadowskys!

This is just me, but, I think of The AC Thing and The Sadowsky Thing as being different enough that I ''keep them in different places in my toolkit.''

I'm not saying you can't use them on the same job, to the same end, but I'd let the Sadowsky stuff be what it is, and let the AC stuff be what it is.

ymmv; etc.

My intent was not to get one bass manufacture to sound like another but is just a chance to try single coils in place of Humcancellers.I had many to choose from but choose to try the AC,s very well could have got Duncans Anticuitys,Nordstrands,Fralins etc.By the way Roger has changed his manufactures of his pickups at least 3 times I know.Plus Jimmy gave me a good price on the set!

Fralins are awesome.

The P bass is a KBP4 and the Jazz Bass is a Pensa (with Fralins). Very interesting results so far. :)

The Sadowsky singles are PERFECT with the Sadowsky J's... highly recommended. I assume part of a manufacture's 'special order' OEM pickups is to wind them and voice them so they work well with that manufacturer's preamp. I've never heard as beautifully matched preamp/pickups as the A-C circuit and the Sadowsky single coils (Seymours) with the Sadowsky pre. Wonderful IMO and IME!

is he still using seymours in some basses? i was at careys shop last saturday and he had a pile of oem sad pickups. i think they were 4 string j sets.

Roger also has a Nordstrand option for the J's, and I believe some of the PJ spec's come standard with Nordstrands P and split coil J or whatever. The Seymours sound better to me personally.. more bight, more grind, more everything! He still listed the Seymours in a post he put up within the last few months explaining the OEM manufacturers for his various options, but who knows. Things can change. I hope not though!

maybe i misunderstood, but it sounded like he was taking over. he was telling me that a customer of rogers was used to the sound of the seymours and when he got his new sad wanted the sound of the hotter duncans. i guess carey wound him a hotter set. i know roger would always say that his pickups were like antiquity 2's but to my ears the grinded more like an sjb1.

Interesting... not sure. I sure do like the original singles though.... like you said... hot and a bit grindy/aggressive.

+1...the MIM Jazz that I have now has sjb1's and it is a REALLY hot and grindy pickup similar to the Sadowskys I've played with single coils.

Thanks Man. That songs was originally tracked with my 77. I spoke to Maro (original owner of my LG5 and current owner of the KBP4 bass that i want) We pretty much sealed the deal for the KBP4. (matching woods to my LG5) When i get it in i think i might do another take of that song. Just for fun.

Thanks for the compliment. Nothing fancy..just enough to "make a living" haha!


EDIT: last time i checked Lindy didnt make a P5. Ive been gassin for a PJ 5.

I just listed my Willie Weeks Alleva Coppolo bass in the for Sale section. The bass is only for sale so I can get an LG5.... PM me with questions.

I may be selling the burgundy mist KBP4 also if there is any interest, and only so I can get an Alleva Coppolo LG4....

Love those Alleva Coppolos, I think I have now had my hands on enough of them to know which ones I really want.
