KP You keep calling your new bass an LG but its Alder/maple like an RA? Are you doing it with 60's spacing?
I believe the neck shown in the video was just a 'placeholder', and that the actual neck will have a RW board.
Using Kirk's vernacular....'I don't need no eF'ing maple board on no mother-eFin' bass' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'm going a little overboard here (the new Zoom recorder has me a bit giddy), but here is one more clip (I promise... last one for a while).
I thought the LG clip I put up earlier in the thread (with the TC rig) did a pretty good job of communicating what that bass sounds like (at least played by me with my tone goals). The LM clip to my ear came out much more 'hollow and sizzly' than I hear that bass. At first, I thought it was the little mic's in the recorder not being able to handle the wider, deeper tone of the LM, and those quick, hard transients off that maple neck. However, I dragged my 'reference rig' (TecAmp) to the family room this morning and redid the recording (at the request of a TBer buddy). This sounds EXACTLY like what I hear when I gig this bass out.
I believe the small RS210 cab, which is quite mid mid oriented, with some space between the upper end of the driver and tweeter, really is not optimal for the wider tone of an LM type bass... too much sizzle way up top, not enough grind in the upper mids, and a sort of thinness down low that IMO is a result of the cab not quite being able to reproduce those freq's as efficiently as the upper treble.
OK... blah, blah, blah... here it is.... more grind than sizzle, and more representative of the tone I go for. The TecAmp stuff is WONDERFUL!

Edit: This could also be a bit of 'neo versus ceramic' thing... since the neo drivers, in general, seem to have much better upper mid content (or too much depending on your tone goals), which plugs that 'hole' between the top end of the woofer and tweeter.

I agree 100% and like the sound of your LM thru the TeCamp rig MUCH better than thru the TC rig!

well thats the dilemma... I was going to go with the full LG.
So we cut an Alder Body with 60s spacing.
Then Jimmy had a Maple / Blocks/Binding neck that was used just hanging up in the shop...
It was the Twin to the Maple/Blocks/ Binding Neck that i Updated my old Lake Placid Blue LG5 to years ago, and the mistakenly sold that bass.
The two necks were made on the same day for NAMM basses.
And the profile was exactly what felt great to me.
When we were tooling around and slapped my new bass together a few weeks ago with the slab / unfinished body we threw that Maple neck on it so we could weigh it.
I played it briefly, un-setup, and said whoa!!! this is pretty nice! IMO....
It had punch,could burp too,it slapped with a meaty bottom,it was articulate and still fairly light in weight.
So instead of thinking about going with a RW board. .Im almost going to settle with that Maple neck...
What does that make it?
I dont think its an RA... or LM or really an LG but closer to an ?? im thinking.. that is what i called my old Lake Placid Blue ..an LG Custom. It was born an LG5 with RW board but later had an maple neck operation that made it a weird mix of DNA...
That old LG5 of mine was the test bed for the newer bridges that he uses, the passive tone and preamps and the 5 string pickups that he now uses.. It started without passive tone and a BA bridge. I have a photo that i will post below.
The guy from Shamekia Coplands band has it now. His name slips from me right now, i just woke up.. Not Jason though. Jason was the original player with her.
This guy had some shoes to fill when he took Jasons spot.
But i think he is happy with it, so getting it back would be hard. and that bass is so similar in every way to this new one.. That older LG5 of mine may be the lightest full sized /non chambered 5 string that i have played... notes sang on that bass and i want to duplicate that as best we can without going LBP..

Another great clip. Now, could you please do the LG through this rig and play some similar lines? I'd really like to hear the difference, and I definitely agree the TC stuff is more mid-forward.
Nice basses Rick! I love that LG5, it's got such an understated elegance about it. And that KBP4, c'mon...
Kirk, you are right to kick yourself for selling that LG5... Wow! I like both versions but the new one w/ maple is quite beautiful... I would've left the BAV bridge on it though, but that's just me... A new BA addict.
Also, it's probably just me but when I see a older A-C with only 4 knobs it looks "weird". I just love the knob layout that Jimmy came up with.
