I never really asked Jimmy on his thoughts on an LM with a rosewood board... Sound and look wise I was kinda set on it after playing Bigg Redd Too. But he did bring up the Honduran board idea to keep some of the spank and brightness that the LM is known or designed for. I'm all for it!

Yohann, there you go talking about my bass again haha!

Now I haven't played an LM with maple board, or RA for that matter, but I totally dig how the rosewood board sounds on the LM. You can definitely get that aggressive, grinding, late 70's tone. When compared to a Marcus Miller J the only thing that my ear really notices is just a little little less brightness or sizzle in the upper registers on my LM, which is noticed more so when slapping, but the LM with rosewood still sounds awesome for slap. I like that the rosewood is just a tad bit more modest (for lack of a better word) than the maple board. All IMO of course, and I would much rather A/B my LM with another LM (maple) or RA to hear the difference within the AC famiglia.

No you're not!!

Another great clip. Now, could you please do the LG through this rig and play some similar lines? I'd really like to hear the difference, and I definitely agree the TC stuff is more mid-forward.

The LG really sounds quite similar through both rigs (and most of the rigs I play it through), since it is not sending the deep lows nor those aggressive upper mids to the amp (minimizing the differences between those rigs). Very similar to my ear. There is a clip of the LG through this rig on the iCompositions site that I have linked in my profile.

Yeah, but I figured since that was recorded with a different device, it might be more accurate to redo it for direct compario here with the same recording device, position, and whatnot. But I can take your word for it if you like.

Ill go with that...
I would think its closer to an RA than anything else.
The tonal impact of changing an RA from 70's to 60's spacing on the bridge pickup IMO would have much less of an impact on tone than changing an LG to a maple board or an LM to an Alder body...

Yup, I've said before and I'll say it again... Bigg Redd Too was the bass that did me in. But as far as the Ash/RW sound is concerned, I've known for a while that this combo is for me from my Mike Lull bass... It's got the best of both worlds for me and I'm also not a huge fan of the uber-high frequencies.

I agree 100% and like the sound of your LM thru the TeCamp rig MUCH better than thru the TC rig!

I agree 100% and I bet I'd prefer the lg5 with the puma rig as well. I am listening on little ear buds today but it almost sounds like the lg though the tc is more agressive then the lm through the puma

again just listening with iPod buds so I may be way off

It has some treble response to it, but it is much mellower than the LM if you listen on better speakers. I really like the LG with that TC rig myself.

If you want to hear the LG growl and grind, I put up a thread on the Schroeder 115L+ and F1 with the LG. That tone won't be for everyone, but I love it... snarly!:bassist:

Man, I gotta' say, I know you said in the last segment of this thread that you hated the alder/rw slap tone, but I'd be surprised (to say the least) if you got anybody to agree with you on that at least based on the slap tone you have in your LG clips... every LG clip you've slapped in sounds pretty damn good to me. :)
