I always liked firemist gold with a maple board and tort guard. The matching headstock will be extra wet!!

Sorry...it was not a joke. They are the same. I'm just used to calling it by the name Fender gave the colour years ago...Ice Blue Metallic.

Jimmy can call it whatever he wants. My RA5 looks GREAT and sounds even better!:hyper::D

Edit: I actually don't boost the bass and treble like they are in this pic. Must have been taken the day I received the bass.:D
I normally run the treble flat and the bass about 10-30% depending on pickup volume. Anyway I just noticed that in
this pic.

I don't wanna sound like I'm breaking up the RA love here but I just posted mine in the classifieds today. I just figure it's best to sell it now before it gets any damage or wear on it. I miss it already but I just have to look ahead to my LM.

If any of you are interested in expanding you A-C collection hit me up please!

Congrats on the new bass. Can you highlight the refinements that Alleva Coppolo has added to his basses since moving to the left,,, I mean the west cost?

I have to thank whoever it was that recommended them, 'cause they are great, and a perfect choice for the LM5 - grindy, yet with a degree of refinement, just the right tension, and they sound and feel good for fingerstyle and slapping. I use Lo Riders on some of my other basses, but I haven't used Hi Beams for many years, and I'm really glad I gave them a shot.

Hi Beams on an LM is about is good as it gets IMO. Those strings can sound a bit too 'polite' on some instruments (disliked them on my LG and especially on the RA... sizzly, smooth, no balls), but just work perfectly on the more aggressive LM to my ear. Enjoy!

I settled on the Lo Rider steels on the RA and Lo Rider nickels on the LG. Those strings bring out the best in those instuments also IMO and IME.

Per all the RA comments above, +1 Wonderful bass which sounds nothing like the LM, and not much like the LG. Another unique J voice that might or might not work for you.

The voicings of these three models are very easy to describe, and it would be shocking to me if every player didn't have a preference of one over the others, since they all sound completely, utterly different:

LG .... warm, growly, organic.... moderate low end, wonderful low mid growl, polite upper mids, sweet top end. Warm and organic are the adjectives that come to mind.

LM..... big, wide, grindy, aggressive.... not so much growl, but lot's of upper mid/lower treble grind.... classic 70's funk tone. Big, aggressive and grindy are the adjectives that come to mind.

RA.... warm, organic low end, very smooth in the mids (i.e., not much growl, not much grind due to the 70's pickup position with an alder body I assume), extended upper treble response... not as sweet as the LG, but much more extended and 'out front' in the upper treble (due to the maple board I assume... by far the most treble 'sizzle' of the three models). Not as big as the LM down low, more treble extended than the LG. Smooth and creamy are adjectives that come to mind.

All great stuff, and all three sound 'like you would expect' given their spec's IMO and IME! My clips on my iComposition homepage (listed in my profile) communicate the above tonal descriptions pretty well for all three of these basses IMO.

Edit: Had yet another wonderful weekend of gigs with the LM/F500/410UL combination... big, grindy, bright, punchy all at the same time!
