Hello Jason,
I have been in that street in Tokyo, last year for a holiday . Its amazing that they have all kind of high end brands as well as "Old style Fender Jazz Basses".
How about the pricing of the AC's in Japan?
Reasonable?

IMHO, as much of a rounds guy as I am, I don't think you have much to worry about. Don't underestimate the overall sweetness/tone of that bass.
It's all good, I am not concerned or worried but if I knew I was going to be doing something where people might actually be listening to my playing I probably would have stayed with what I am more used to.
That being said the TIs are breaking in nice and sound great. From what I've been told about this new opportunity the flats will likely sit nicely. If it works out I may be stuck with them!

I mentioned this in an earlier thread but it is worth mentioning again that I went and saw the Dream Girls show at the Apollo over the winter and Jason kills it. Not to mention the material is something every bass player would love to be playing.
That show was very memorable not only for those reasons but it was also the first time I was in the Apollo and our son was around 4 months old at the time and it was our first "date night" since he was born.
I would highly recommend checking out the web site and seeing if they are coming to your neck of the woods anytime soon.

I've got your upright and NOW you converted me to those TIs...BTW the DB has openned up a lot since the adjustments Jeff had done.
I spend a few hours a week playing duets with another bass player, mostly beating ourselves up with cello pieces. He plays a plywood bass and has resorted to amplifying his DB to keep up with me.

When I sold that KBP5 to Mitch we had an opportunity to hang out a while. That bass under his fingers and with that rig of his sounds nothing like and at the same time light years better then what I was ever able to coax out of it...That bass was made for him...
Honestly, I didn't even look at the price tag of the AC bro. Someone else asked me the same thing & i was so excited to see Jimmy's stuff over here that I didn't even look. I did peep the prices on some other stuff & they seemed pretty comparable, but a bit on the high side ... i remember seeing MTD's (535 & 635) for 5 or 6 grand U.S. & a '66 Fender P for 9 grand. There was sooo much cool stuff in these shops that my head is still spinning.

Thanks Pete! It took me almost my whole life of playing bass to realize that my tone was in a P bass, and if I hadn't met you, I would never have found your KBP5 and my life just wouldn't be the same!! I certainly owe you one....
It makes me super happy to hear that you're loving my DB....it sounded so great for me for so many years and I would LOVE to hear it now after all the upgrades and adjustments....haha I BET it whoops that plywood bass's ASS! What kind of stuff are you guys playing? I think I have some awesome bass duet stuff from Homer Mensch's library that I may have saved from my NYU days....I'll see if I can find them....if so, they're yours!

Yeah, it seems to have made the rounds, but at least on paper, this bass is exactly what I was looking for, so I think it's going to stick this time.
Now, to find me a matching Hipshot D-tuner. Any suggestions?

Yeah both of my 4s and 1 of my 5s were Dalbergia but one of my LG5s was Indian (another was Honduran)...I found the Indian to be a bit brighter and snappier than the Dalbergia with a definitely more percussive feel to the notes. Both were freaking great though so I don't think you can lose! I would definitely source the Drop Tuner with Jimmy. Play her in Good health!

If you've got any duet stuff I would love to make copies, we've got a Zimmerman book that my buddy got from Stanley Clarke years ago, some jazz stuff and I just ordered every book I could find on Lemur's website. The bow is killing us!
You using the LMII and Epi 215 on that gig?
You know, hip-hop and rap (if I may combine the two... at least generally) has always been kind of a sore spot with me for a couple reasons... one, because it rarely has bass guitar (understandable tho... the synth tone is part of the deal), and two, because there's so much "angry" stuff out there, and while I understand where that comes from, I just personally don't find that entertaining.
I only bring this up because I REALLY dug this clip. REALLY dug it. I know it's not as traditional, but man, I so dig it with a bass guitar instead of a synth bass. Just seems SO much groovier and human, and even in my relatively uneducated opinion regarding this musical genre, sure seems to me that's what that music is really all about... not so much musical complexity, but just all about what you do with a fairly basic musical theme... expression... and how much more expressive can you get than a human playing a bass... IMHO, none.
Anyway, for whatever it's worth, that's the coolest clip for this musical style I've seen in a long time.

Thanks! Wow....Stanley's book? That's awesome! Haha I've got some slow bow exercises that will REALLY mess with your mind....but I think I have some really crazy baroque duets somewhere....I just have to find them....and yes, I was playing through the LMII and Epifani 215, and even though it sounded great in the house it was really hard to hear on stage. Just not enough headroom....(my drummer is SO loud) I'm definitely bringing out the V6 next time though!
Let us know what happens with the audition....I'd love to hear this girl sing!
