Any time a company acquires another, and the result is a new business area for the company, they pretty much always take at least a year or two before they get involved in ways that could affect product. I've been through this exact thing personally three times now (tho not in music products) and it has gone that way every single time.

Same thing with Tobias and Gibson. There was a good chunk of time after the acquisition where it was pretty much the same stuff, hence the serial number check.

We do Not offer Endorsement deals to anyone. Our Artists Play our basses because they Want to. They are free to play any other brand if they so choose.

Oh ok, then there we have it... Goes back to my post earlier about needing lawyers and paperwork to make things exclusive. Seems Jimmy and Roger handle this part in a similar way.

It's a co-promotional agreement between a professional with significant public exposure and a product manufacturer.

The professional endorses (promotes) the products when they use them in front of the public, and the vendor endorses/promotes the professional to improve exposure for both the professional and the product(s).

Do you get things for free, a discount or what?

As Kwesi says, it can go any number of ways. Just whatever makes the most sense for the professional and the vendor.

As Vic says, many different flavors of endorsement. For basses/instruments, it is typically pretty loose, and there isn't a big advantage to the player, other than possibly saving a few bucks and getting your picture on the website.

Most amp endorsement deals are also what I call 'pseudo or vanity endorsement deals'... the player kind of digs the amp, the company feels it can get some additional sales from kids seeing the 'pro' use the amp or post up about it a lot on TB, etc.. Usually there are no contracts... the endorsee (player) just gets a bit of a discount on his/her purchase.

There are a few 'real' endorsement deals, but they are rare these days. For example, Ken Hensley (of Uriah Heep fame) was the artist rep guy for St. Louis Music when they handled Ampeg. An artist like Tommy Kennedy was given a full endorsement deal, so that he was supplied an Ampeg backline of some sort when he was on the road (i.e., an Ampeg retailer, paid by St. Louis Music... I think... would literally bring and amp to a show and Tommy, and others like him, just walked in and played). Eden used to have a similar program back in the day.

That is one of the reasons you saw just a zillion Eden and Ampeg rigs as backline for these high end touring acts back in the day.

The vast majority of endorsement agreements today are relatively minor, and more just a tool a manufacturer uses to get a bit more awareness of their brand.

Dude very nice, i am a salsa nut, love it...My good friend is Alfredo De La Fe, Good recording you did there, man that COPPOLO sounds AWESOME. By the way one of my favorite SALSA Bass Players is Ruben Rodriguez. Jimmy has a line named after him now.
