I hear ya man.

I have studied classical double bass and have had a world class double bass that I had sold to Kolstein's in Long Island years ago-- and dialog oft with Ken Smith about master basses.Too, a fellow TBer friend of mine has Ray Brown's old bass I sometimes get to play.

YUP.... double bass strings are super expensive BUT last longer than their little brethern-- the electric bass ( strings ) don't ya find ??

Anyone looking for reasonably priced upright strings try Upton Bass, they have house gut sets for around $250, I use the set that is plain gut G and D with silver wound on gut A and E.
I have used LaBella flats on my KBP4 Classic for 4 years and that is a good combo that can bark and thump.
I'm getting a KBP5 Standard Big Body in lime teal metallice with rosewood board, matching headstock and tortoise guard. Like the Willie Weeks bass but a 5.

The laser etching on the back of the headstock is not a trend more of a decision. What set it off was many of my over seas distributors were having some issues at customs because up until now the instruments did not state where they were built any where on them. I guess this is a required thing for export and/or simply just makes life easy for the people who work at customs. So with the need to label my products I also wanted to personalize the insiginia a little more. As many of you know I have personalized some of my basses with the image of the twin towers before but only on basses made on the anniversary date. I am a big fan of Howard Stern and Bubba the Love Sponge; at some point in each of their radio programs they both had expressed how they thought using the image of the twin towers instead of our American flag with "made in U.S.A." would be a good representation of who we are now and a cool thing to insignia (or stamp) on American made products. I am sure many will dissagree and argue with this but I couldn't agree with them any more. Those towers mean a lot to me and I am hoping all Americans feel the same. They represent a lot of important things. Here's a contriversial statment for ya's "With them standing proud and tall it represents all what is good about us with them down and now gone it represents all that is not so good about us." So you all are probably asking "what is he talking about?" I guess just the state of humanity. OK back to the instruments now... All the basses and guitars I build will have the towers image, made in U.S.A. and of course "by a NYC Italian"... that part just lightens up things up and so far has made some of us sinister people laugh. As for the laser etching on the plate, that is an option BUT I do charge extra for it. So please don't feel singled out if your bass does not have your name etched on it... just means you either decided pass on that option or it just wasn't a consideration :)

Hey Everybody, Hope you all had a Happy Holiday Season and I wish you all a great New Year. I want to announce that on Saturday February 12th 2011 I will be hosting the first Alleva-Coppolo Hang in San Diego - What better place to get away from the cold and celebrate the Valentines weekend? I have invited a few industry guests that not only are friends of mine but make products that I believe in and think are really cool. At the get together you all will be able to experience their products as well as mine. I’ve decided to start small; the venue for this first event has limited me to invite only 125 guests. There is no fee to get in but you will need my private invite. So e-mail me at [email protected] or phone the shop (909)9810-9019 if you want to attend. Invitation confirmation and venue location will be revealed in the invite. This event is for players, bass enthusiasts, and those who just couldn’t get into NAMM or couldn’t afford some of the other bass themed shows.
Note to my peers and or other Industry professionals: The venue is very small and space is limited, therefore I am only inviting a few associates who are close friends of mine in this business. If you are an industry professional and did not receive my personal invite please do not feel singled out, if I do an event similar to this again and space allows then you will hear from me.

I think the Twin Towers should be a standard symbol on the neck plate along with the Alleva Coppolo name. Its original and unique. Maybe the purchasers name could be put inside the control plate or neck joint. Just my $0.02's.

I like the purchaser's name where it is on the control plate (which as Jimmy said, is an option so you don't have to have it there if you don't want it.) Also, the twin towers with the Made in USA on the headstock is definitely a nice touch - you get a bit of Jimmy's personality with that.

I like that control plate! If I ever order another new A-C, I am going to get that option, with 'Jason Phelps' engraved on the plate:p

Nah, I'm a wimpy little girly-man that doesn't like 10-11 pound basses, despite their period correctness... ;) :D

Now, if it ended up as one of those more rare LMs that was closer to 9 pounds, the GAS noose does tighten a bit... :)
