Wow, is that ever cool. Forgive the n00b question, but do all ACs have that stamped on the headstock?

Okay I took a moment to take a few quick pics and give my first impressions. The first couple things I noticed are exactly what I liked about Ken's LM5 and what made me place an order - the neck is absolutely perfect. Nice and wide across the fretboard, and thin from front to back. Also the neck pocket is set so there is enough room to dig in if I need to, but the pickguard is still very close to the strings. I guess it's hard to explain why those two things are so important to me, but they REALLY make this bass perfect for me in terms of playability and that's why it's so hard to put down.

So I plugged it into my small rig (LMII into an LDS 112/coax cab) and whoa - it sounds exactly as I imagined - super aggressive 70's jazz with TONS of grind and punch. I'm LOVING the preamp. Feels great on a strap, very balanced. I weighed it on my digital bathroom scale and it comes in at 10.4 lbs.

So here's some pics from my iPhone...they don't do the 3TS justice but they'll give you an idea:

Simply beautiful bass Jason. That's my spec man in every way. Ash/Maple/TTB. You can't beat it! Enjoy that bass!

Out of curiosity, is anyone out there using flat wound strings with their Coppolo basses?

Considering how wonderful many of these Alleva Coppolo models are at retro tones, I'm wondering if anyone has one doing the Carol Kaye - James Jamerson vibe.

I use TI jazz flats and Labella flats on my kbp-5 and my lg-5 gets a used set of Labella or Sadowsky flats for a couple of weeks when changing the rounds it normally wears. The kbp certainly cops the Jamerson/Kaye vibe. Palm muting the LG when it wears flats can cop a definite motown vibe.

Not sure I've seen the back of an A-C headstock before. I'd like to know if that 'Made in USA ...' marking always been there and if it has always included the two rectangles. Also do the rectangles represent anything? Given there are semi-custom basses, will that marking be omitted if requested? Thanks.

I have Alleva stainless rounds on my LG5.
"bark-bark!"

I have R Cocco 45-125 Stainless Steels on my LG and the tone and feel is pure 66 Jazz bass with the most pronounced Low B ever. Dark, rich and very wooden sound--pre killin`60`s coming at ya with this combo

I tried DR Sunbeams 45-125 and was shocked that the punch, definition, and fundamental disappreared--- as compared to the R. Cocco on the LG 5.

Get this--- the R.Cocco strings were not happening on my LM Deluxe and I had to immediately abort the mission.

I reckon every bass has its ideal string and it is an (expensive) process to find which string gives your bass the vibe-tone- and feel you are looking for. :hmm:

Oh yeah-- Season`s Best and a prosperous healthy New Year to all AC cats out there.

Keep a Good Spirit :bassist:
