Man, I just can't get over how awesome that bass looks... and I can't even imagine how much you're digging it right now. My only regret is that I can't hear you playing it. I just KNOW it's great.

Congrats... it's been a long road to find "your 70's J5", but I'm guessing it's at a happy end now. Now the fun part begins... the love affair that never ends. :)

Yep, for me when I ordered I told Jimmy not to worry about weight at all as long as it's under 11 lbs (which is the threshold where I start to "feel" the weight) and he delivered. I literally can't tell the difference on the strap in weight between this and my Fender 5 (9.5 lbs) or my Fender 4 (8.8 lbs).

Good for you! I've decided not to worry so much about the weight of a great bass and instead worry more about getting in better shape -- or perhaps a new strap system -- because I'd hate to miss out on a dream bass simply because I couldn't handle it.

Seriously, it is so fun to read euphoric comments when a guy gets a bass that really pleases him; I'm really happy for you. :hyper:

Are Both the pickgaurds got the contour bevel on the part where the fender control plate would have been? Jonno...The black bass had that and I had that done to it. Is that a new Jimmy thing?

Jimmy has been doing that for years...the only A/C's I've seen without it were a couple passive four strings that had actual control plates.

The first couple things I noticed are exactly what I liked about Ken's LM5 and what made me place an order - the neck is absolutely perfect. Nice and wide across the fretboard, and thin from front to back. Also the neck pocket is set so there is enough room to dig in if I need to, but the pickguard is still very close to the strings. I guess it's hard to explain why those two things are so important to me, but they REALLY make this bass perfect for me in terms of playability and that's why it's so hard to put down.

So I plugged it into my small rig (LMII into an LDS 112/coax cab) and whoa - it sounds exactly as I imagined - super aggressive 70's jazz with TONS of grind and punch. I'm LOVING the preamp. Feels great on a strap, very balanced. I weighed it on my digital bathroom scale and it comes in at 10.4 lbs.

Well for me, (& I only bought one 2nd hand- not like a lotta the guys on here who have 'em custom built etc :bassist: ) Mine's THE nicest playing bass I've EVER played. And best sounding. - this is all IMO of course.
If you're into 'old Fenders' these are a fantastic way to get some of that 'vibe' but also have the options of today available.
The pre amp is rarely used on mine-I use mine in passive 75% of time- it STILL kicks my other basses in punch & tone- But the VTC works-like a reg. passive jazz- in passive mode, & when U DO switch in the active pre- I often leave it flat- as it's just so sweet. But adding a bit of treble or bass if needed- has always 'done the trick' for me if I need it ever.
I think the wood selection is extremely good & build... superb too. Nitro finish on mine.. it just SPEAKS!!!:hyper:
