Does everyone hear the same things as I think I do? No. Am I right? Yes..for me. Does it matter if anyone agrees or not? No. Are there other factors involved? Many! As long as you are happy with what you hear in your bass its all moot. There is no smoking gun concrete tangible "proof" either way..which is also the reason its not definitive either way. Its about the different ears of the individual and their hearing enviroments.

I just chimed in to bolster the argument that weight does make a difference for those who are reading these discussions and dont have alot of experience, and are contemplating an order.

Jonno, ironically, you are your own perfect straight man. :)

I also agree with bassdoubler, KJung, and Vision, and I've personally played both of those Celinders, even owned one of them, and Ken's exactly right about them. Just more of IME's to back up why I said what I said. I run into this all the time, which is why I kinda' laugh when people make such blanket assumptions about cause and effect (no offense... honestly!)

Maybe at the lower end it might matter more, maybe because heavier woods might compensate for a lack of wood selection criteria, but once you get to the high end, and you have masters at wood selection and instrument construction in the story, I think a lot of that stuff washes away and you just get a great instrument no matter what.

Now, keep in mind I'm not talking about balsa vs anvils. I'm just saying like 8-11 or so. At least in that range, it makes a lot of difference to my lower back, but not so much to my ear.

At least this has been IME since spending more time with the higher end in instruments.

IMHO on that tho. :)

Well, you get no argument from me on that, but not for this reason. :D :D

All I know is, I literally can't imagine a better sounding LG than the 9 pound one I have, and that's AFTER playing lots of Jimmy's basses at last year's NAMM and this one, both lighter and heavier. Add that all up any way you like. :)

I'm glad you're home safe Mitch, great seeing you again!

Well, coming from one of the best pair of ears I know... The comparison we did on Monday really helped me tune in to the differences... Even Miko commented that after you said it, we were really able to focus and hear what you are talking about.

In regards to my LM, it is 9.5 lbs and I don't think it's missing anything compared to the heavier ones at NAMM and the shop.

I receive my LG5 today. I just got finished setting it up and
playing it for a few hours. It's actually better that I expected
it would be. I am blown away by this bass!

After I set it up and got used to the wider spacing at the nut
(wider than my RA5) it felt almost like home. The tone
is clean, punchy and "thick". It's perect for what I was
looking for when I ordered this bass. I'm not as good as Ken and
Vic describing tone. (you guys are really good at this stuff:p)
The Nitro finish aboslutely beautiful and Indian Rosewood board
is SO chocolaty delicius. All this at under 9 pounds. :D

My RA5 has been my main player for over 2 years and I love
it to death. But I'm pretty sure my new LG5 just bumped it to
2nd place.
I have a rehearsal this weekend and a gig next Saturday
so I hope to break her in really quick.
Here is some bad pics. You can't see it the pics but it has
a matching headstock and pearloid dots.

SMOKIN' LG, dude... and trust me... I know what you mean. I do love the RA's and LM's, but for my tastes, the LG is just "the stuff". :)

Real sweet looking basses... I reckon there's enough space to squeeze in another bass in the last picture!! :)
