After I set it up and got used to the wider spacing at the nut
(wider than my RA5) it felt almost like home. The tone
is clean, punchy and "thick". It's perect for what I was
looking for when I ordered this bass. I'm not as good as Ken and
Vic describing tone. (you guys are really good at this stuff:p)
The Nitro finish aboslutely beautiful and Indian Rosewood board
is SO chocolaty delicius. All this at under 9 pounds. :D

My RA5 has been my main player for over 2 years and I love
it to death. But I'm pretty sure my new LG5 just bumped it to
2nd place.
I have a rehearsal this weekend and a gig next Saturday
so I hope to break her in really quick.
Here is some bad pics. You can't see it the pics but it has
a matching headstock and pearloid dots.

I've had a set of Lo Rider Steels sitting here for over a year to try on my LM. EVERY time I consider changing from the HI Beams, I do a gig and they are just perfect.

The Lo Riders will bring out that upper mid gank a bit more (i.e., more classic 70's passive J tone), but the Hi Beams are so sweet, and smooth the 'gank' to just a nice grindy brightness up there.

For 3 years+ now... a happy Hi Beam/LM user! And, they sound better from week 2 to week 6 then in week 1.. can't say that about many stainless steel rounds.

I'm a huge fan of the SS LR's, but on a 70's spec, I'd definitely go HiBeams if you don't mind the little bit of extra slink to them.

I have a 70's spec J5 and it currently has strings on it that are kinda' similar to SS LR's and I'm just basically waiting for them to wear out so I can get a set of HB's on it. I may not wait. :)

Then IMHO, nickel rounds all the way. Maybe some nice XL170's. Some other nickels I've tried that I like are DR LoRiders, Dunlop, of course Roto RS66's, and, believe it or not Peavey Cirrus. I haven't yet tried Sadowsky nickels, but they typically get great reviews as you'd imagine.

Probably my first rec is to +1 Chef and say the XL170's.

I sent Chef a pm on this but wanted to get other responses as well.

I used to use these strings a long while ago... And in an effort to save some $ I wanted to try them again. Can anyone tell me for sure if these will fit my LM5 w/ a BadAss? Since those bridges are a touch longer that could be all the difference. I'm talking about the regular long scale set.

I bought 4 sets at GC and I'd love to know before I bust a set open... This way I can just return them.

DR Sunbeams, they are nickel and have less tension than the low rider nickels AFAIK. I use them pretty much on all my basses, I do have JImmy's nickels on my LG right now and those are pretty good too....

I can't think of why they wouldn't work. I've used DA XL170s for as long as I can remember, pretty much on every bass I have ever owned without issues.

Thanks Sean!

It just seems like the E string is always short on their regular long scale... If you have a string-thru-body bridge or something like that, so the added length of the BadAss concerned me. I will try them.

I hope these work for me again, 2 sets for $30 is hard to pass up.
