the Ave Maria KBP5 (my nickname for it) will ship on monday..... looking forward to it...never in a million years would think that
i would like a bass that looked like that.. It was never my thing..
But for some reason it called to me ... Then I spoke with Lee sklar about it a few months ago and after that , I went with my gut... and the weight is right too...

Congrats Kirk, finally! It sucks to break up the pair (the other being the RA5 with a slightly different color scheme) but at least the KBP5 will get some quality playing time outside the shop and shows.

Tell ya what, the red PJ prototype is so tempting but I cannot possibly tell my wife that I'm buying another bass, specially before my LG is even finished... Oh well, I told Jimmy we'll just make a regular KBP (no PJ) that looks just like it later on!

Yes.. Thank you.. Just got the UPS shipping Notice from Jimmy.. The Ave Maria KBP5 should be here by Tuesday. Weeeoooooooooooo

I didn't really hear a lot of different tones from the Jazz bass per se, other than that they all sound killin' !!!!!!

I did observe however:

1. Most if not all basses had rosewood boards save Larry's himself ??? Now that is surprising in a way BUT the best slap sound I personally have heard ALSO, on a Fender Jazz bass was a French artist's 77 Jazz w/rosewood board and the late Wayne Brathwaite's 73-74 ish black Jazz with rosewood board. Just my humble opinion here guys. MARCUS's tone is really the SLAP 101 compendium and sets the mark for most all other basses and bassists, right ????? ;)

2. I notice at least 4 (1966-75) era Jazz basses all in sunburst with rosewood boards/pearl blocks.
THAT IN ITSELF IS A VERY VERY STRONG STATEMENT for the TONE of those era Fender Jazz basses-- for being arguably the best all around era Jazz bass that will likely do it all----- IMHO ????? :hiding:

I have a deal in the works with a killin' 69 Jazz I own and after seeing this video I have second thoughts....THANKS GIL :ninja::ninja:

yeah man he is HOT, but very much indebted to you know who ?? MM

yes the rosewood is not so in your face as the maple some times can be, though i DO like maple/ash too, on a Jazz bass...make no mistake about that :bassist:

i saw jeff Beck recently and i was floored by the tone that man gets out of a Strat. He played 3 diferent ones all with rosewood boards.

then i saw 2 nights ago in DOWN BEAT magazine the man cleans up in the awards department...very awe inspiring artist and individual...

funny so many different talents on the guitar and individualities, but exponentially on the bass there are very few and far between talents, gazillions of Jaco and Marcus clones...oh well..if I could be a fraction of either those 2 greats, with my own style of course--it would be a humble blessing......

this is one of the many reasons i love my wife. i put this clip on last night and she wanted to know who it was because she could tell that his note choice was different when soloing compared to marcus.
