Congrats Kirk... I was checking out your old black KBP at the shop last night, the body size difference is quite noticeable between that bass and red Custom Modified KBP (PJ) with the new body style... Do you agree?

thanks guys!

Pete, it's the Tom Barney 5 with the cool grain top with the black border that everyone fought over how ugly it was haha

Well you are not marrying that one for the looks. Must be a killer bass. What's the weight on her?

I bet you don't notice the black sides on a dark stage at all

haha thanks Dan....Pete, is that like doing it with the lights out? haha....I'm pretty sure it's 10.4 but I could be wrong....I actually really dig the look of it! that black border is pretty unique and the grain looks like old beachwood it's kind of cool....I was drawn to the smaller string spacing as well as the smaller scale pickups to match....just curious if that might add to my playing in any positive way haha....either way I needed another AC to be my "road bass" and Jimmy didn't have a hippy dippy 5 made for me in time so I went with this guy....if I don't like it I think I know a couple guys looking for a TB5! haha

+1.. A drummer that i play with in Austin has a custom DW kit with a crushed Glass sparkle type set.. mmm gooks really cool...
I gigged this bass on a local gig last night.... it played so smooth and even, that it was real easy to go from shipping box to gig without any setup changes. Thats had fro me to do usually. I am a fanatic about how a bass feels.. Ask Jimmy... He'll tell ya... I really like how the neck on this one feels... the Low B string is even tension and not boomy or loose feeling, with a wonderful depth in tone.. My old road dog black Kbp5 that is back at the shop had a similar Low B..
This has the 1/4' larger body . .didn't think i was going to be OK with it.. but i always liked my old Yamaha BB3000 because of that exact reason.. And this feels real nice.

Kirk, now all you need is a matching drumset. Sparkles have always been my favorite on drums.

Thats my old black P 5.. That thing has traveled! It was just re-fretted by Jimmy last summer... Nice bass.. but i wanted something really weird for some reason... That is the 1st kbp5 that jimmy made and was at NAMM a few years ago.. And was one of the last to be made in the NYC shop. I think Hugh got the 2nd one for his gigs.

Not to keep beating this drum... but I even think the older P body looks better. The red one looks way too big to me.

To each his own though.
