That P bass was "IT" brother... What a wonderful instrument, a true example of what that model should be. I'm glad I got to play her before being boxed up and shipped. I loved it so much that I decided, instead of an LM, I will order a KBP first to go with my new awesome LG!

I'm also really jonesing for a KBP5. I bought a new Fender P5 to let me spend some time in P land before plunging with the big dollars. I really like it and have been spending a lot of time playing it. I would love an AC p bass! Just a matter of time...

At the beginning of 2008 when Jimmy introduced the KBP5 I was stoked but couldn't afford, then I saw that Fender had brought out the American Standard P5 and I got one of those. Mine was Olympic White with tort guard and rosewood board, it was a really good bass. Then with Jimmy bringing on the big body concept for his 5's, I'm glad I got in for the "second generation" so to speak. Keep the goal!

Cool. That's definitely the plan. I have to say, the Fender I have is actually pretty darn good - especially so for the price. I'm sure I will like a kbp more when the time comes but this one is a nice placeholder.

I concur...the Fender P 5 is "pretty darn good"....

Stopped at a local store Friday to check out a new YAMAHA 5. I played it for a bit...hummh...OK ? Though it definitely did not ignite any fires.

I was looking over other stock on the walls and a Precision 5 in Olympic White and a rosewood board grabbed my attention.

Casually I picked up the Precision 5 and immediately was impressed with the beauty and the FEEL.
When I plugged it in I almost fell down.

The TONE and PLAYABILITY were simply astonishing and it blew away the YAMAHA with ease--- in EVERY department. (Low B, Tone, Feel, Looks, and VALUE ! )

IMHO, FENDER has 2 of the baddest factory made instruments out there-- bookended by the Pino Custom Shop 62 model and this--the most devestating booty bass I have had the pleasure to play in a long LONG time-------the Precision 5.

Opinion seems to be rather favorable for this particular model--right across the board. How did Fender do this ???
Easily 9.5 out of 10...

I'm a little late to the party but I just wanted to say
congrats on your new KBP5. It's a beauty for sure.

I was thinking about selling mine a couple of months ago.
I decided to just start taking it to more gigs (I was mostly
using my LG5). I'm glad I did. Now I'm splitting my time between
the LG5 and the KBP5 about 50/50. Doesn't look like it's
going anywhere now. Here is a pic of my KBP5. It's an older
one with a Nitro finish. Still looks pretty good too. Both Coppolo's sounded great last night.

Finally my LM arrived an it's the bomb fellas best one so far...sounds almost identical to my beloved 77 Jazz with all the mojo plus a punchy and focused b string.

After owning a KBP5 I have to say, with the right setup, there's really no difference between that and a fender P5....Jimmy's pickup is very dark and mellow to my ears and after hearing a '73 Precision that blew me away, I sold the KBP5....it is an incredible bass but I just couldn't justify keeping a $5000 P5 on my wall when my LM5 was seeing all the action!
