ATTENTION:

Jimmy just updated the site.. there is a used CAR LG-5 for sale.... looks to be in virtually perfect condition, and is about $500 or so less than new price... full warranty.

Man, it's hard for me to not buy this, but I have too much stuff, and a Skjold weeks away from delivery.

There's also a lefty Harvest Gold LG-5 that looks great... nice way to see what the Harvest Gold with RW looks like.. it looks GOOD.

Somebody should jump on the CAR though... matching headstock, passive tone, $3,000 out the door, full warranty.... :bassist:

I called on that one and it's actually just Red.. That is pretty sharp though.. I asked them to measure the headstock for me too.. I figured with the 5 in-line tuners the headstock would be too long and it's only 9 1/2"s... Not much bigger than my Celinder with 4+1.. I had one of the Benavente 51 P's previously whxih measured 11 1/2"s long with their 5 in-line tuners... That was too long..:bassist:

Yeah, the headstock is pretty much the normal length, and the basses fit in any bag that a standard J would. The 'bigness' to the look of the headstock is more from the width, since it has much less of a cut-away.

That red one is really nice looking, but that red headstock is a little 'too much red' for me:D It looks like a nice one though... someone's going to get lucky on that one... looks virtually new, no wait, and a 20% discount:bassist:

Funny, those fancy top ones with the gold hardware do nothing for me... that seems to be in the opposite direction of what Jimmy and these basses are all about.. the 'classic/vintage' thing. That being said, they are probably smokin' like all the rest of them!

+1. Fancy Tops and the glorious Pre-CBS Fender Vibe of the AC's just don't seem to go together. (for me) They look nice, but I am enamored by the more vintage vibey AC's!

That Red one looks sweet, ...and I just placed an order ... so it caught my attention. But I am holding out for the ultra cool, vintage 3-T sunburst/Tort PG/Nitro finished LG-5 that I ordered. The savings is tempting for the red one, but I'm sticking to my guns!

Hi guys.. im feeling freaking great.... thank god for laptops and wifi at times
Honestly i dont think Jason will ever get rid of his Big Red Bass... I was talking with him earlier today ..That is the bass that he always goes back too.. Jason has a Limited and i think he is getting an LG like mine with maple or possibly an LM... he just got a kbp4..
So that red bass is glued to his hands at this time... he has almost as many dings in his as i had on my older LG5. jasons bass plays like buttah.... his neck fingerboard came from the same board foot as my kbp4.. they are chocolaty /red in color...

On another note. jimmy just sent me a shop photo of a new body he finished cutting.. He did not sent it to paint finishing yet.. it is Splated/Flame Maple on an Alder Back.. I bet once it has clear on it, that flame will burst off that top... Im not a big exotic top sort of guy, but i wanted to share it with you guys that are.. thank you

Someone SHOULD grab that red one up fast...it'd be great to see a TB'er get it..........BTW, I called Jimmy's shop and I could have sworn that I heard that the new bridge he just finished is a $250 upgrade....FOR A BRIDGE!!!!!!....now that might be a little ridiculous......

I believe that is true. Jimmy told me he still has his bent plate custom bridges done by a local machine shop, hence the cost.

I am still torn as to which bridge to choose since several of the Alleva's I've seen, heard and read about have the Hipshot B style bridge. But in the spirit of the Vintage mojo that Jimmy infuses in his basses, I am very tempted to go for the Bent plate bridge regardless of cost. I am going to trust his opinion and follow his lead in this regard. Gary

Got the RA5 today,,,,,

UPS left it on my front porch! while not a bad neighborhood I definitely don't live in a good one.

It could have got ugly,,,,,

That RA looks SMOKING!!!!! Remind me again... 70's pickup position, nitro finish, alder body, shiny poly on neck and board... is that right? I assume this is Jimmy's kind of 'Marcus Miller' vibe bass, similar to the aggressive Celinder Update models? I assume the Alder body has the same 'fat' impact on the RA as the heavy, dense ash body does on the Celinder.

Hi

It's Jimmy's take on a 72-74 black blocked bass. They had alder bodies.70's pick up spacing, Poly everything.Except the faceplate of the headstock, Fender couldn't get the decal to stick. that why they check and tint only there. The white one for Ruben and the Ice Blue one on the site are Nitro bodies. This one is a Poly body, I wanted as period appropriate as possible. Notice in the pic the tinting of the face plate of the headstock.

I think the LM is the "Marcus" bass with a ash body. I understand that to be the later 70's model. I believe it to be coincidence that the blocks came with the introduction of this model.I think Jimmy advertises Northern Ash for those, thats what I know to be the typically heavy, ash fender used. On a side note though, I've played Marcus's bass, it's not that heavy. The Alder just does what alder does kinda puts a sweet into the mids.

I've always had a thing for early 70's Jazzes Growing up there was this older buddy in Boston, Frank Swart (He's out in the bay area now)he always played a early 70 jazz. I hung with him for years picking his brain a such so I think tone is stuck in my head.Theres a guy in Boston ,Steve Brahmen, he post here as prism64 or something. He's got a sweet 72 Jazz with flats. I was playing that bass at Jim Bergantino's shop through Tom Bowlow's IP1510 stack and digging it.Then I was on the phone with Jimmy and he mentioned these RA basses and Bam.........
