Club Alleva Coppolo (part 2)

I think the LM is the "Marcus" bass with a ash body. I understand that to be the later 70's model. I believe it to be coincidence that the blocks came with the introduction of this model.I think Jimmy advertises Northern Ash for those, thats what I know to be the typically heavy, ash fender used. On a side note though, I've played Marcus's bass, it's not that heavy. The Alder just does what alder does kinda puts a sweet into the mids.


I've always had a thing for early 70's Jazzes Growing up there was this older buddy in Boston, Frank Swart (He's out in the bay area now)he always played a early 70 jazz. I hung with him for years picking his brain a such so I think tone is stuck in my head.Theres a guy in Boston ,Steve Brahmen, he post here as prism64 or something.He's got a sweet 72 Jazz with flats. I was playing that bass at Jim Bergantino's shop through Tom Bowlow's IP1510 stack and digging it.Then I was on the phone with Jimmy and he mentioned these RA basses and Bam.........

VERY cool! That is just beautiful. The LM really isn't that 'J on Steroids' Marcus thing either... just a beautiful playing and sounding later 70's J bass that still sounds more passive than active. I dig it a lot, and have the 'Marcus over the top J thing' covered with the Celinder Update. Boy, those RA's are just beautiful!

PS... my LM with ash body is one of the lighter basses I've owned... really a pleasure to play through the night, and still plenty of oomph down low, although not the 'thunder' of the very heavy Celinder Update with the aggressive preamp.

This picture is so sexy. I love the way these ACs are described, but I can't get past the way the pickguard/no-control-plate/knobs look. But these slightly more modern takes, to me, are gorgeous (sans the gold hardware). One day...

Love Jimmys basses so much and this thread is driving me crazy with all these great looking Alleva Copollo's. Now that i have a LM 5 and play it as my main axe. I am thinking of selling my Sadowsky NYC 5 to get a KBP 5. I always got good compliments from the Sadowsky but when i play it and then play the Copollo its a no brainer for me. Its the Alleva Coppolo.
But the sadowsky has been with me since 1999. I would love a pink P. My 5 year old daughters favorite color. The Gas is really getting to me. Then a white LG 4. Help im really losing it. Opinions please.
Have not seriously played the sadowsky since july 7th the day i picked up the Alleva Copollo LM 5.:confused:

That last sentence says it all.......as long as you won't miss the Sadowsky and the KBP5 will be as valuable to you as the Sadowsky was...........GO FOR IT!!!

You GOTTA check out the KBP's. I have played 2 KBP4's, and they are wonderful. I've played alot of higher end P's--Lull, Sadowsky, Lakland--and they are all nice and well built, but the AC's have something special. I have also played many pre-CBS P basses, and aside from the worn in feel, the AC's get pretty darn close. I can't think of another P bass out there that came as close to the pre-CBS P's.

Alleva PJ 5......I'm holding out until he makes one!!!
Well, maybe not hold out, who am I kidding!!

BTW, I have some higher than I thought tuition bills coming up and had to sell a bass.
Sold my Sadowsky NYC 5- Kept my AC LG5.

That's exactly one of the main reasons I ordered an Alleva LG-5 having never heard, touched or played one before!

You guys who are selling, or are not playing your otherwise worldclass basses make an even more compelling justification for the LG-5 I ordered! But dammit, you make me want to go ahead and order an LM-5! For now, I will wait patiently. ...Or rather unpatiently another 5 months or so for my LG5.

I am so damn glad I got my order in the queue!
