I actually prefer to think of it as a case of "great minds thinking in the same gutter!" But then, you probably have a LOT more class than I do!

1- No- WAY no! In fact there are very slight differences in the contours between KJung's AC and mine. The bodies & necks are all hand cut by Jimmy.

2- Yes, but since I "think" there are only about a hundred or so out there (mine is #73 built last Oct) I've only seen one with an exotic top. Check out the video section on Jimmy's site, I think Jason Langely is playing one.

3- Umm......wow.....different for sure. But could this be the first REAL contender to capture that same "Mystique" that Sadowsky has.
But they are different for sure.
Psychicpet nailed it though, on the LG model, it that pre-CBS thing, but perfect.
And on the LM- it's 70's Jazz all the way.
I've played a LOT of 70's Jazz Basses and to be honest, most of them sucked. The small percentage of them I did play belonged to guys who knew it and had zero intention of selling them. The ones you see floating around for sale, usually don't play or sound pretty good.
Same with pre-CBS ones, but to a lesser extent. More of collector items than "players". But the ones that are-WHEW!! Slammin'!
Jimmy nails both 60's & 70's flat out perfect. And adds a pre-amp that IMO doesn't remove that from the bass at all.

This is a killer looking 4, my eyes bout popped out!
Most guys are buying the 5's but I'm a 4-banger all the way.
I see you have the 'finished' notch on the pick guard too... awesome, that's what I would have spec'd.
I'd have to get used to the giant looking headstock especially on a four string but ain't that big of a deal really. I'm gonna see if a used one ever comes up for sale... so keep me in mind if you ever go that route.

What is LG and LM stand for anyway?

+1.. Kirk (SVTB15) put up some amazing pictures somewhere of Jimmy's woodshop, with the very old, huge woodworking machines, and an 'old school' pickup winding machine. Similar to the Celinder basses, these are all individual hand made, with most parts done in house (Jimmy winds his own pickups... I think his girlfriend actually does much of that if I remember correctly), and he uses a total custom preamp also.

I love the precision and consistency of the Sadowsky's, but there's just something cool (especially at the boutique J price point) about getting something that has been almost completely 'hand made' by the guy who's name is on the headstock.

Regarding 'the new Sadowsky'... I'm not sure.. totally different instruments... the Sadowsky, as most know, has a very signature tone that is 'modern, updated J', and the preamp is very powerful and 'non transparent'.. they are very 'active' sounding basses, and I love 'em.

The Alleva is ALL about an accurate and true 'update' of a Fender J, and Jimmy seems to try to make his basses sound vintage and passive even when in active mode. I always describe the LG-5's and LM-5's as... 'imagine if Leo Fender had hand made two five string active basses in 1966 and 1974, and hid them under a bed somewhere to be found 40 years or so later.. that's the vibe of these IMO'.

Maybe Kirk would be nice enough to post those cool pictures of Jimmy's shop sometime.. I can't seem to find them.

Ken I couldn't agree with this statement anymore.. Thats what I love about my Celinders and thats what makes me really want to check out these basses.. I have to get my butt down to NYC sometime soon..

That was actually 3 questions.
1. No
2. Yes
3. I thought that Nordy was the new Sadowsky, but AC could be included in that list of J basses.
