I totally agree. It looks so much more vivid than even my real vintage Fenders did. I imagine that when my '62 Jazz left the factory it must have looked a lot like this. The fact that the same guy may have actually painted them both just blows my mind! This is definitely a keeper. It plays even better than it looks if that is possible and I have already gotten a couple of small nicks on her so I imagine she will be reliced a bit before long. Somehow I don't mind it on this one. I think that is the way she is supposed to look. I try to keep them as pristine as possible but I expect this one to age very well no matter what I do. If I were going to pick a centerfold screensaver this bass would be it! :help:

I need to get some better pics of her in some good lighting first though...

I have to agree, simply gorgeous bass!
And as I remember, the finish on your bass looks much better than the sunburst finish on the 62 Strat that my Dad gave me on my 14th Birthday, in 62.

I'm such a 'fuss' about my gear that I could never do the Nitro thing... those nic's would end up driving me nuts. My FBass was a continuing nightmare for me. However, the 'relicing' can look quite nice on a vintage style instrument like this one, so that should be cool. On a boutique, modern instrument like an FBass... not so much.

I'll be sticking to my poly finishes, but man, does that look amazing!

The only problem that I had with my nitro BN5 was where I anchor my thumb directly behind the front pickup. It wore through in a couple of days, but once I had George make a clear pickguard for it that problem was solved. I would think that any nitro with pickguard wouldn't be that big of a deal, after all my Jazz is 44 years old and always had the pickguard on and is still in pretty good condition for what it has been through. Jim

I just put a set of DR flats on my LM5. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them on, but I wanted to try them out. I lost a bit of the growl and bite that the rounds had, but the bass still sounds clear and rich. The flats give the bass more thump and low end emphasis.

Before I joined TB, I always used flats. I'm starting to really dig a nice set of rounds, but I'm not used to changing strings so much. I just left the same flats on for years. I usually forgot which set I used.

I'm a DR HI Beam guy all the way with the Alleva. The neck is so stiff (just like the Sadowsky) that the tension feels perfect, and those stings just growl and sizzle with my LM. They last a long, long time in that 'second stage brightness' sort of tone after a few hours when the somewhat over the top new sizzle wears off. Nice strings if you like the 70's funk.

The Lo Riders will give you a touch more tension and a slightly more 'upper mid rock grind' versus the slap happy Hi Beams IMO.

I have a set of Fodera Victor Wooten nickels on my RA5. Nice punch, feel, and clarity, but I'm going to switch them off in a month or so and try some DR high beams just to try something different.

I started off with D'Addario Steels - they felt pretty good, but had a bit of a twang to them that I'm not sure I liked.

I've swapped strings a couple of times. I played the ones that came on it for a few days, first time I've played rounds in years, and then swapped them for some Labella flats. Those sound great on the bass and play like butta. I decided to put on a set of hi-beams on when I was planning on getting an LM-5 to go with the LG-5 and liked they've stayed on since. I like the sound so much I changed my order with Jimmy to a KBP-5 for my flat strung bass. I also have the DR flats on an old franken P-J and while I initially liked the tone they get a little too dead for me over time. I find the Labellas to work better for me after they have broken in. I've had a set on a Nash jazz for a year and they sound great.

I'm also amazed at the neck stiffness/stability of my LG-5. I haven't had to touch the truss rod since I received it in November. Its seen the change in climate from NY to UT and three different set of strings and all I've had to do is change the string height of the b string as the Labellas have a tapered b and set the intonation.

I switched out the stock strings that came with the bass, whatever they were, with GHS Progressives (125,105,85,65,45). I think I'd like to go back to using nickels on this bass though, just seems appropriate. I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Sadowsky Blue Label Nickels, so I'll give them a try the next time I'm due for a string change.

I showed you mine, now I got to see pics of your LG5!! It looks good in your avatar.

The KBP5 would be the bass for flats.

The DR flats aren't my favorite, but they have a nice feel to them. They're very smooth and easy to get around on.
