Thats the same exact case my LG came in- the Sadowsky ultralight one.

TKL Case makes them I'm almost positive.
My Valenti came in the TLK and it's almost exactly like the Sadowsky case.

Does that Sadowsky Ultralite case snap shut? Or zipper ? Or ?? Looks like a row of snaps on the tope lid. I've never seen one in person.

I was thinking of maybe getting a Sadowsky Portabag for my LG5 when the time comes. How does the Ultralite compare? Sorry for the thread derail. But it is about gig bags for AC's right?

It zippers! The Ultralight is one of the best cases I have ever had. Not too heavy or bulky and really good protection for the bass. The Portabag is THE BEST bag out there by a pretty big margin to me. It is lightweight yet strong and offers a LOT of storage space for extras. It never seems to get full or overly bulky no matter how much stuff you put in it. I ALWAYS use a Portabag if I can get away with it. I have my 4th coming Tuesday! I have no problem using it over a case unless I was flying and had to check the bag. It is very well padded and unless something VERY heavy fell on the bass, it would protect it from most anything. I have come to expect that anything Roger puts his name on will be of the highest possible quality and I have not been let down yet. I exclusively use Sadowsky strings, straps, cleaning cloths, and Portabags and cases and don't see myself using anything else. As far as the case or bag, I HIGHLY recommend either one! By the way, I do not receive anything at all from Sadowsky, I have bought and paid full price for 20 basses (except for those I bought used!) and every other piece of gear I have gotten from them.

As far as RA5, I'm thinking it is right in the middle between LM5 and LG5. My Ken Smith has the 70s pickup spacing, but that is so far from fender. I had a Marcus Miller 4 string that I enjoyed for a short time. Otherwise all of the jazz basses I have played or owned have been 60s spacing. I think I might like the added bite of the 70s spacing, as long as it retains some warmth.

You will retain some warmth with the RA's.

Thanks Tom. Forgive the ignorant question, but are the Sadowsky Ultralight and Portabag one in the same?

No problem, no the Ultralight is a square, molded case with a nylon finish and the Portabag is more of slim but heavily padded gig bag. Check them out here:

Click on the pics there and it will bring them up in another window. Both are great and work well. MAKE SURE you ask for the NITRO insert if you decide to get the Portabag!!!!! This will protect a NITRO finish from being damaged by the leather pad at tail end of the case.

I love the look and wearing of Nitro... and secondly for about 6 months "I Love the Smell of Nitro in the Morning"

And to me when my Nitro get a ding.. it looks way better than any other finish to me.. i do go out of my way to protect it but it happens.. to me it is just a tool to be used.. and it get s dinged that way..

Cool, but how does the dinging and wear look on a metallic finish? I can see it not being too big a deal on a solid color, but checking and dings on a metallic might not be so good. hrmm.

I'm still babying mine so I've not experienced anything bad. I'm still in the "wipe it down" stage, since I sweat a good bit when playing, and I never wear buttons or belt buckles when playing it.
The only thing I regret is my poly basses looking so glossy.

<i think my other basses are jelous!>

Yeah, I asked Jimmy about it. Basically, he said that if you are playing the bass primarily live, you won't notice the difference or perhaps it will be _slightly_ brighter sounding. I didn't really talk to him about ware. I figured it wouldn't stay new long. I also guessed that nitro wouldn't hurt resale since that is really the vibe jimmy is after. Not planning on selling, but hey.. I never tried one before. I'm hoping I will want to take it to the grave.
