Broken in yet? I had gotten my first "ding" and Jimmy said leave it alone. It will look better. The guy who accidently did it said he would pay to have it fixed. But in 10 tears who will notice the difference in all the dings these basses will receive.
I know you like the Poly because of that, so do I. But.... a Nitro LG is starting to build up gas in me. Not that i dislike my
LM is any way. The only bass I play these days.
Just an added note. The Pink P is extremely light in weight. I picked up the body when he was first working on it and its like a feather.

I'm ding free at the moment, but that won't last. Basses are to be played and gigged, and for some reason, these more traditional J style instruments kind of beg to be dinged up a bit. My Celinder is a bit 'broken' in with a few little dings in the poly, but it just feels more like mine.

However, the Nitro thing would be too much for me regarding chips and dings... just couldn't do it!

I have a couple of actual chips in mine. And for the life of me, I don't know how the hell they got there.

Either the poly finish on mine isn't as tough as normal, or it's nitro- which I'm almost 100% sure it isn't.

Either way, I don't care!!!! I LOVE this bass!!!!

I took my A-C out on its first large venue gig the other night.........The first thing the soundman asked me after the sound check was "Woah. What kind of bass is that?" It must have happened 10-12 more times before I left. Never before had so many people asked me what I was playing, and this is a spot I play regularly.....I thought about you guys at the end of the night and I said to myselfThis is what they were all talking about.' No doubt, this bass is special. I don't have any experience with the other rosewoods on an A-C, but I must say...........after shedding with it for almost a month now, there is no doubt that this wood is special. I can't find a word to describe the tone......it's very woody indeed.....I just might have to grab up another piece before it's all gone..........

I had a local luthier modify one of my AC's pickguards to emulate the bevel on tommix's 4 string sunburst.


What do you guys think? Any ideas on how would you do it different?

I might be willing to trade this guard for a BWB possibly a parchment if anyone interested.Not that I'm unhappy with the bevel I knew I wanted BWB from the start.Little less bling.

I don't dig the bevel at all, the standard pickguard's unfinished appearance just fits...to me.

Well, alot has been going on in AC news around my neck of the woods. I placed my order for an LG5 and picked up a KBP4!! All this talk of Brazilian Rosewood, nitro finish and all the new pics of LG5's has been driving me crazy. I had to let go of my LM5 to pay for the two new additions, but I am so happy with the KBP that I don't ever want to put it down. This is as close to 'holy grail' bass as I've ever been. I have played and owned many pre-CBS Fender P's and the KBP4 is the closest thing to capturing that vibe.

I will miss the LM5, but I have this bass that is seeing ALOT of action:

Gotta run out the door right now, but a full review of the P will follow, as well as all the specs that I'm considering for the LG5.

Nicky! Wow! Does that KBP4 have a brazilian board (looks like it does) and a Nitro finish as I might imagine? That's quite a dramatic departure from your LM5. Like a totally different direction. But man, I 'feel you' brotha! Very cool. Can't wait to hear your report.

PS: Great color! Is that Lake Placid Blue or some other shade?

As soon as I played the LM5, I knew that I had to have an AC P bass to replace my main player. Then I hear about all the great options and my head has been spinning ever since I started researching AC basses and the way the older Fenders were made.

The KBP I have doesn't have a Brazilian board and it is finished in thin poly. The color is gun metal blue. Review to follow.....

KBP4 is an amazing bass. I played Kirk's and it is without question one of the elite P's around. Play it alot and congratulations on such a beautiful instrument. I wish you All the Bass I mean best,.......... I mean both.

....A bit more info about my new pre-owned KBP4. The finish is gun metal blue metallic with matching headstock, satin poly neck profile and parchment guard. This bass was built for Willie Weeks and he used it with Clapton for a quick minute to determine if the 1 11/16ths nut width would be wide enough for him (he has huge hands). It also has a prototype pickup in it that Jimmy can no longer do because the original fixture to wind the KBP4 pickups dissapeared. The current fixture has changed and the new pickups have been redesigned.

The body is alder and the fingerboard is rosewood. Probably Indian RW. If I were to spec out a KBP, I would probably go for the Brazilian board and I might consider nitro, but, I am glad that I got this bass exactly the way it is. I wouldn't want it any different.

The tone: Alot of people are saying that AC's are like buying a brand new pre-CBS Fender, and I honestly feel that that is a great description. It has a tiny tiny bit more 'snap' than my old 1959 refin P bass. The AC is actually more even over the entire range of the bass and from string to string. While the '59 is mellower in the upper range, the AC is more refined and clearer...which works great for me. It goes along way for getting a clean tone for soloing in the higher range. Basically, it's just everything a great P bass should be.

The construction: This is top notch all around. It just feels right in my hands. I've always liked the P width nut. The finish on the neck is starting to wear in nicely for me. It isn't wearing in a traditional sense, rather, it's just smoothing out under my thumb. This is the way a P bass should be made. Everything is impeccable and the finish is flawless. I may add a tiny bit of foam under the pickup so I can expieriment with different pup heights, but as hard as I tried, this is the only little nit-pick I could find.

Overall, the bass feels great and sounds great. I could honestly see myself playing this one for the rest of my life. I am going to miss the LM5, but I have been a P bass guy for a long time, and it's about time to retire my old '59 P bass. I would have done so sooner, but I never found another bass that made me happy. I will still be using other basses for my cover and world gigs, but the KBP will see a ton of play time.

Kirk there was one LG5 I played at NAMM with the new bridge...after living with mine and its BRASS Hipshot bridge I think there may be some diff between the two ( a little more open, not as compressed, the high end different, a little faster attack)...but like you said until they're back to back....and they could be subtle differences...have to see.

Steel, and considerably less mass should do something towards a more vintage tone/string response....

Cudos to Jimmy ( and your contribution) for going the extra mile to remain true to a concept to that detail....

Going way back on you, Mitch. . . still trying to catch up on this thread. I guess you're meaning that the Hipshot Brass is more open with a faster attack than the new bridge?
