So he made the move to Alabama? The cost of doing business there is got to be way more reasonable than SoCal.

I was pointing out that slim piece of maple under the brazilian rosewood slab, that's "new" on the LG.
Love the colour.

So I have that sweet Fodera Matt Garrison Signature Elite 5 Custom (horse chestnut top, ebony pickup's covers upgrades with an extra nut - E/C & B/G) and, well, I'm going back to strictly 4-string.
Long story short, looking to work out a trade for an LG4 or KBP4 Classic Supreme.

I think he's just finishing up orders from Cal era and then concentrating on setting up the whole deal at his new place. Don't think he's taking orders for a while or the rest of the year.
Mitch is correct. As far as I know, everything we'll see in the next little while are made in CA and assembled in AL. I'm not sure when Jimmy will be able to start cutting new wood, etc. When I spoke to him last, he said everything coming out is basically spoken for.

My 78 Antigua is 12 pounds, ash. Sounds great… was my main session player for a very long time. My guess this LM sounds pretty good too. Beautiful bass also.
Yeah…not light but you can only imagine it will level buildings.
A good wide strap helps…but I get your point. I have basses in this weight range but I have straps for them.
The Empress LM5 is 7.75lbs too
It's also the last one being built by Jimmy apparently…
My '06 EUT5 is Primavera body wood, nitro finish. Dunno much about the wood, but it sounds great

Apparently Primavera shares similarities to Honduran Rosewood and is nick named "Blonde Mahogany" as well. It has very decent cutting mids, so likely great for metal and other genres.
That Janka hardness tells me it's a very soft wood.
"Primavera sometimes called white or blonde mahogany grows in Central America and Mexico. It is creamy white to yellowish rose, sometimes tinted with pale brown, orange or pinkish stripes. Primavera is strong, medium textured, with straight to interlocking and wavy grain, sometimes with a ribbon or fiddle-back figure or even subtle Mahogany like grain patterns. Tonally Primavera is similar to Honduras Mahogany. Weighing less than Mahogany, it has been used on many high-end basses and has a very even response and strong midrange tonality."

It's a very even response bass. If it were mid shy, I doubt I'd still have it.
A credit to its maker.
It's one of those basses that always sounds good, always will get the job done well.
I rarely boost the bass or treble on it, but is very nice to know they're there if needed.
Back to the weight discussions; my LM5 is 8.4 lbs. and it's actually too light in my opinion, but I'm telling myself that I'll appreciate that more later when I'm older, LOL. I replaced the bridge with a BadAss and the added weight makes a difference in feel and sound. I think it's an awesome instrument, definitely the best and my favorite I've owned, but I don't know how many you (purists/connoisseurs) will find it to be a "true" 70's 5-string like some of the heavier LM's.
