Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Thanks. If I select ash in RA, is it still polyurethane only?

So confirming what bassam0222 said above.
However… Jimmy has made a few basses he calls "RA Ash" which is when a customer wants the look of black blocks and binding on the neck but with an ash body. Essentially an LM tonally with black blocks and binding. The ash body is still going to be poly no matter what. Jimmy names the model depending on the look/aesthetic so he prefers to call it an RA Ash rather than an LM with black blocks and binding.
My guess is that Jimmy did agree to do this version of an RA/LM mix because Fender did do this exact thing for a brief time in the early 70s in a kind of transition period.
FYI he has also done a Rosewood board with white blocks/binding and an ash body I believe a few times too. Fender did do this sometimes in the 70s also. Don't know what he calls that one…. or if he would do any of these versions anymore.

Thanks to both of you, I have narrowed down the AC specs I want.

AC RA5 (Ash) or LM5 in natural (Poly) color, TB (18mm space). Neck is block inlay, maple fingerboard (nitrocellulose lacquer).

I wish I could find a used one for economic reasons, but it seems difficult.
I will wait patiently.

I did see this bass on Reverb which seemed pretty cool -

Alleva-Coppolo NYC LS5 - Rare One-Of-A-Kind | Reverb

The AC LS model.

I guess what kind of sound are you going for? For the straight up Marcus type 70's sound it would be the LM but something a bit similar would be the RA and then for 60's the LM.

It looks pretty good, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to get it because I already have an LG and the next AC I get will ideally be a 70's spec (ash body, maple fretboard).

I was in the same boat as you - having an LG and thinking about either RA or LM. I was fortunate to obtain an LM recently. However, I wound love to try an RA one day.

Just BTW here....all necks with maple fretboards are finished with polyurethane both neck and fretboard as far as I know. I highly doubt you can get Jimmy to agree to a nitro neck/maple fretboard....but
you can always ask I guess.

Wow, this is gorgeous!
I especially like the black LG fretboard.
I would love to have an LM TB Deluxe or RA TB Deluxe.

The black LG is a Stenback bass. It is a great looking and sounding instrument! I do love playing all three basses though!

If you are not familiar with Tom Stenback here is quick clip -
