Looking for some AC pickup info…
Does Jimmy wind his pickups differently for the LG and LM / RA basses? Another way of saying - does Jimmy make 60's wind and 70's wind pickups for the different models or does he just use the same recipe?

The pup wire has gone through many changes since my first AC in 2007. He started out making all pups with the same wire- at least at that time and for a long time after.
For at least several years now I believe he has special wire for 70s and same for 60s models… there may be "special option " wire also that was sourced from batches made decades ago. I'm more unclear if this still exists today. Best is to contact him and see what he has going now.

Looking for a 'Tom Barney' (TB) model Alleva-Coppolo LG-5. J/J pickup configuration only.
I'd also be open to considering an LG-4.
Must be light weight: preferably 9 lbs. or less - 9.2 lbs. at maximum.
Prefer nitro but will also consider poly finishes.
If anyone has one of these A/C models for sale, or sees one listed for sale - please drop me a PM with the details.
Can do a straight purchase - or I have some tasty trade bait I could also offer - in both 4 and 5 string versions.

Thanks Mitch. Always so good with the AC knowledge. I no longer have my RA5 (ash body) but I own a Nordy VJ5 with an ash body. Just acquainting myself with the ash maple 70's sound again. My memory of my RA5 was that the bridge pickup wasn't as aggressive / tight at the Nordy bass. It has a better B string though. But it was too heavy for me in the end.

Jimmy uses heavier northern ash and Carey I believe used or uses swamp or even northern but I'm pretty sure not the heavier stuff. Compression could have come into play there… especially if the Nordy is swamp. It's a more open and faster attack tone but it depends on the bass and piece of wood. The heavier northern though has a strong fundamental and more compression which I'm thinking the B can benefit from. Less overtones and strong pitch definition. Plus yes the pups may add another dimension like you are thinking. I'm not as up on the Nordy pups vs Coppolo so can't comment.

You're right about the heavy northern ash. It certainly adds something extra (apart from weight lol). My RA5 with ash body had that classic compression going on when you spanked it. The Nordy I have is amazing too. Just in a slightly different way - in many ways it's a better instrument than my old RA5 but as you know Jimmy has a way of making his instruments slightly quirky in way that makes them unique.
Nordstrand make so many different pickups - including 70's wind which is what got me thinking about about Jimmys pups. It makes sense that he would do a different wind on the LM and LG - and it's also classic Jimmy that he doesn't really advertise it. I'll send him an email. Do you own a LM4? I know you have amazing LG4.

No I never had an LM4. I do have two 70s ash maple Jazzes though and one LM5. I've moved away from ash maple several years ago in favour of alder basses… but still love the tone.
Nordys are fine instruments …either way it's a win imo.

Just on a shoot with Scott Devine today and he's brought his Alleva - thought some of you may get a kick out of it!
I'm not sure. We're recording a bunch of stuff for YouTube, so it will be sometime this year, but can't say much beyond that. He is really smitten with this bass, though; tried to convince him to sell it to me, but he won't (although, I'll keep asking).
