Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Ya, this one Jimmy said is #1…..although its hard cause its been so long since he's heard the black one or others. However, he does remember his reactions…and its probably at the top of the ones Ive played so far. I just put one of Jimmy's old style vintage bridges on it and …..my God. Its a CS with old cut/growth slab Brazilian DN and nitro, TB nut but with regular neck and pocket, clay dots positioned like a '59, 9 pounds. When i put flats on it Jimmy joked I'm going to sell everything else…..:)

Actually there is a picture of both of mine on the previous page…they are on the table: RA5 , KBP5, both burst. I'll try to shoot another few but my camera sucks...

Rainey's bass sounds great too after the repair. I heard all about the damage....amazing restoration.

My 2 almost didnt make it in time for the show....Fender guy was going into a major surgery and the color ( yellow) was not coming in right because the bodies were dark alder, he refused to paint burst on them and insisted it be a choice of only 2-3 other colors none of which I wanted. I really only wanted this guy's 3 tone burst from the beginning. Jimmy came up with a solution on the paint and we convinced him to go with it, to try Jimmy's idea last minute before the deadline passed to start painting in order to be done in time. Ended up great ....by the skin of our teeth.

I think we all wished we could have played Chuck's bass....the history and music that came out of that thing!

So are you getting the gold bass or already have it? I saw a gold body there....looked wonderful.

Hi Gents, this may sound very stupid, but I've only recently discovered AC, just how versatile are these basses? I'm in dire need of a 5 string that is active and versatile to complement my very vintage sounding P bass with flats. I play a wide range of material, ranging from run of the mill rock and pop covers, to Jazz Fusion originals and covers, as well as writing and performing my own material which utilises lots of chords. Obviously Fodera is an obvious choice for this sort of stuff, but the AC's look DAMN good and are just a bit cheaper than a Fodera.

I'm based in the UK so we only have the 1 stockist of AC's so trying isn't exactly easy!

I think instruments are only as versatile as the player in most gig situations. In the studio is different. But for gigging, you can't go wrong with a 5 string bass with two pickups (jazz style). AC basses are killer. Since picking up my 5 string AC on the second hand market I use it for all my corporate/wedding gigs (anything that requires extended range, playing lots of styles or needs me to bring the thunder :):). It's quite a big bass, and quite heavy - but man its got a solid bottom end to its tone that I just have not got from a bass before (Ive owned a Lakland 55-94 which was close). The neck is quite wide on the AC 5'er so chording and such may be hard unless you have pretty big hands (but I find this to be the case with most 19mm spaced 5 strings). My AC's are just rock solid. A bit of a wait time if you place an order though.

Bass Sandiego often quotes the weight of the AC basses they sell on their website. Ive seen LG5's on the website range from under 9 to mid 10's so there are definitely light ones out there

Out w the LG 5 last nite doing acoustic electric low volume gig at upper scale dinner beach restaurant

Owner who normally doesn't have two words for bands stops and comments on on how great the bass looks and sounds, moves on.

An ex boss of mine is there who's also a drummer comes up after first set and says its best bass sound he's ever heard. Round, full bottom that cuts thru, kinda like the 60's Jazz his bass player uses, but better

And I was going thru the a basic local joint PA. About as plain amplifications as it gets

Jimmy makes a helluva product
