Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Hey Club,

I'm considering selling my Alleva Coppolo onboard preamp and two sets of jazz single coil pickups. The preamp will probably be sold with the plate, so kinda pre wired type of deal. If any of you are interested let me know before I put them up on the classifieds, the club gets first dibs.

The preamp is gone guys. @HawgDriver snatched it.

I have two sets of pickups available. One is practically new and it has a slightly different output than a traditional AC pickup, the sound is more vintage, late 50s - early 60s sound.

The second one is the one that I just popped out of the Fender, of course in excellent shape. It's a traditional single coil AC set.

Both are for five string sets.

Hit me up if you're interested. I'll give the AC club first dibs, and preferential pricing.

Here's pictures of one set -the vintage sounding pickups. I can't take a picture of the other ones, cause they're installed in the bass. As you can see, not a single strand of angel hair aka copper wire has been unwound, impeccable.

The other set is in the identical condition, just that this particular set was only played in studio for about two weeks, not that it makes a difference.

I hope one of you guys is interested in the pups so the magic stays within the club.

Hi everybody!

A question about AC's, could be about jazz basses in general:

I've had this LG4 Classic for a few years now. It's from 2009, I think. I'm the second owner. I like the bass quite a bit, though I've been playing my Fender CS 59' P for most these days. I might be selling the bass, so I wanna make sure everything is ok with it.

One thing about the LG4 that bugs me: The tone pot doesn't do what I'm used to hearing when I turn down the tone. To me it seems like the top end drops, yes, but the tone in general turns a lot more harsh ( hi-mids? ) at the same time. So I pretty much have to play with the tone pot full on all the time, which is ok by me mostly, but still...I'd like to get that fat reggae sound sometimes, solo the neck pickup, cut down the tone...you know. I used to do this with my old fretless Fender J and it worked like I thought it should.

Should I check the wiring? I don't understand anything about it really.
The pickups? When I solo the neck pickup it also seems to have a rather harsh sound...something wrong in there? The bridge pickup seems to work the way I think they should.

What do you quys think?

I think the LGs have a .022 uf Cap on the tone pot.... If you want it to go real DEEp you can try and change that to a .1 uf.. that will go real deep and bassy..
Most P basses use a .05uf cap on the tone control.. a .1uf will give you nothing but nice deep 100hz and below when rolled to off..

Not sure in your case. My LG4 Classic was built around 2006 I believe, and acts and sounds like the best of the jazz basses I've owned and played over the years. I usually play with both pickups up full and tone knob rolled back just a smidge. Occasionally I'll turn the bridge pickup down a bit to get a more p bass tone (not quite, but close). Never heard any thing resembling harsh!

These were circulating in China a few years back. Seems that at least one has made it to the USA.
This is a FAKE.. Not a real Alleva Coppolo... China is making knock offs of my 'Poudah Bass in Sonic Blue! I just got an email from Jimmy Coppolo about This FAKE "KBP4" this one cheap wiring and electronics. wrong route, cheap rosewood fingerboard , heavy body wood, and clearly POLY not nitro finish.etc) showed up in a pawn shop in Louisiana this week. The Pawn Shop called Jimmy.. Then sent him photos. If you have a doubt about a Fake Alleva , contact me or Jimmy at the shop... we will know immediately.
Some guy almost got hosed $2500 for a used bass... This fake one is not worth $200

I have a big problem. I still drool about my own LG5. I've had it for about two months and I can't stop drooling.
How long will the drooling last? I can usually contain my drool on stage, but usually can't offstage.
It's happening right now.

and btw, that fake AC is terrible. Such a disgrace.
