Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Thats a real nice piece of African RW... I wish he could find more of that , at that quality. its EDIT >sorta< rare..

Krispy Kremes, look at that fingerboard. I've always liked really dark rosewood boards, but figuring like that makes my teeth itch!

Its almost RED with Medium grain . fairly hard.. with a great snap.. Many people think its a jazz bass until they see the P pups. Then they say they never heard a P bass like that.. It has a growl to it.. I'd LOVE to have a "C" profile neck just like it .. This is basically a copy of my old early 60s jazz bass neck. He made 2 or 3 like this john taylor for duran duran got one too..

I swap out.. I was doing a session with that guy Gus G from Ozzy osbourne's band. It was Metal... So i put bright DR hi beams on it for that week..
Then last month i was doing a Play with nashville hit writer becky hobbs. i had flats . I've been a Chromes guy but I picked up some Fender flats that i really like .. perhaps even more. and they were CHEAP too.. I love that
I seem to be really liking flats these days. Maybe im just getting old and i like the smooth feel> LOL

Are you playing flats or rounds on it?

Speaking of flats, this is a winning combo: Alleva Coppolo KBP CS, Jules Monique, Dunlop flats. Sounds amazing and old, with a type of sweet, defined warmth that I've only heard so far with Jimmy's old Brazilian Dalbergia Negra basses. REALLY appreciate how he sourced and stocked the right species and vintage of Brazilian Rosewood.

Dunlop flats are feeling and sounding great IMO . Seem to have a little less tension which I like and although they have a lot of that flatwound thump they also dont sound completely dead.

Well maybe I have to try Fender Flats then also ;) I remember trying a set of them years ago and thinking they were much better than what you'd expect.
What is the fretboard on Poudah Kirk?

The fenders are similar to Chromes.. A little more abrasive for the first two weeks then they smooth out. But the fenders stay LIVE longer than my chromes did
So if you like a NEW set of Flats that still ring out.. The fenders are good for that.
Whereas the Chromes settle in and go Dull and thumpy faster and go to that more old school Flat over time I have a set on on old P bass that are about 12 years old. they sound great.. The fender flats i change out every few months because they have a nice LIVE and bright Flat sound.. At least thats my experience.
I had a set of WebStrings Flats at one time. They were THUMP and THUMP only. Nothing but short decay with a thump..

Poudah bass has an African RW fingerboard. there are a few species of African just like Brazilian.... There is Brazillian and then there is DalBergia Negra. I am NOT an expert on that stuff at all..

Hey guys,

Sorry to interrupt... I'm selling my Fender with Alleva Coppolo guts, pickups and preamp.
As most of you guys know, Jimmy hardly inserts his preamp in basses other than his own. He installed his preamp on my jazz, so this olympic white has his pickups, preamp, wiring, and was installed by him in Upland.

If you're interested, you can PM me and feel free to view the classified thread. There are pictures and a link to a sound clip towards the bottom.

For Sale - RARE Fender American Deluxe Jazz V ALLEVA COPPOLO UPGRADED

Thanks!

Hi @HawgDriver , an ideal bass for me would be an LG model. I've wanted one for years, but I haven't been able to fund one until now, or at least very soon I'm hoping. I've had great experiences with my Fender AmDlx Jazz, especially since improving the electronics, but hopefully I can fully upgrade to an AC LG model. My plans to obtain? Well I'll have to sell most everything I have... my preamp, my pedals, my cases probably, my underwear, maybe even my wife's underwear, socks, maybe a wedding ring/band, my lawn mower if I really must, etc. Once I have the funds available, I'm thinking the stars in our galaxy will align and I'll be able to purchase an LG.

I do the SAME THING..... flats on GDAE but then use a Round "B" string.. hey it works great

I've got Fender Flats on my A-C EUT5 (with a round wound B string:woot: - I've never found a flat wound B that I've liked).
Sounds great.
I really like the Fender Flats. I've got em on a G&L ASAT also.

? ...make that three. I have a round on the B too.

Guess they gotta do some more R and D on Flatwound Bs....

Actually the only reason I dont have one right now is because Dunlop didnt have any when Darryl sent me the Flats, but he's sending me some full sets with the Bs and I'll have to report back.

I had no idea this was so (seemingly) popular. Another still from the "Something" video, just for fun (and because I can't wait for my Surf Green LG5:
