Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

That's cool! Would like to hear him play...great catalog of music there. Here's a video of my LG4 in action. The camera mic didn't really capture how good the bass sounded in the room (cameraman standing in front of the guitar amp probably had something to do with the recorded mix also). But the bass is so comfortable and just feels right to me imho.

Just wanted to pop by and say this is a dang cool bass. Would look even better if the bridge pup was red but wow, what a beauty!

I want it to have a white bridge pickup, and even went so far as to call Jimmy, but he said it's an earlier humcancelling design and that his current shells won't fit :(

I can't say anything else about this bass, because it would definitely come off as advertising!

It was a NAMM show bass a few years ago.. It was to go to jason. yes. . he loves RED basses .. The neck inlays were pretty amazing with a multi layer effect much like a multi layer pickguard.. .

Sure, and if it sounds like an ad I'm fine with mods deleting it. It's a little different in several little ways. The Dakota Red finish is not only on the body and headstock, but the whole neck. That ties in with the red block inlays that are surrounded themselves by a narrow pearloid binding (like what Kirk was talking about in his post). Then, the P-pickups have clear shells that are finished in Dakota Red on the inside, which gives off more of an effect of having clear red shells that are white on the inside; it's pretty cool. On top of all that, the neck profile is a little bit shallower front-to-back than Jimmy's normal neck profile. It's very cool.

Hi fellow Alleva Owners/Fans! Don't know if I'm reviving a dead thread, but it's been ages since I was last on TB and/or posted anything, and I had a question that may or may not be appropriate for this thread.

For those of you who have Alleva's with the Nitro finish (not sure if this is a standard finish on all of Jimmy's basses or not), what do you use to clean or maintain the finish? Is there a particular product you are fond of using that works well?

My LG5 has basically been sitting in retirement after I stopped playing consistently for a church praise band since a few years back. I have been taking the bass out here and there in what seems like 2~3 month intervals to make sure the bass is in one piece and working, but I recently took it out to play it again and realized my finish felt a little grimmy even after wiping it down.

So, any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah, that old school nitro (definitely not standard, by the way) likes to cloud up if it isn't wiped down regularly. I generally use Dunlop No. 65 guitar polish, though there are probably people who have their own favorite cleaners/polishes that may be cheaper/just as good/etc. which may have been around since before my time (hence my ignorance). But that's what I use. It may take a few wipe-downs before the haze is gone. Hopefully you won't have to go to a polishing compound to get it glossy again.

*By the way, is that your Candy Orange Juice LG5 in your avatar? I've lusted after that bass for years!

Oh nice, and thanks for the response! I'll buy and try the Dunlop polish. My finish doesn't have any visible hazing, I don't think, so it should be more than good enough. Over the years, I've just realized that the finish is super fragile so I'm okay with any product that won't strip the nitro layer off the bass.

And yes, the avatar is of my current and only bass :). Back when I got it off another TBer, I don't think Jimmy called it the Classic Supreme, but that's what it essentially is I think. There was also another TB member who did a review on my bass for some magazine, I think, before it ended up in my hands. The review was raving, to say the least.

It's an amazing bass, and it's THE reason I've let go of all my other basses (MTD, Nordstrand, Roscoe). Not to put down the others I've owned because they were all great basses, but the LG5 just fit ME and the sound that I wanted.

I see that you're in San Diego (according to your profile), so if you're ever in the Orange County or LA County area, I'd be more than happy to meet you at a local music store if you wanted to check the bass out. Unfortunately, the bass has its share of tiny dings here and there that have seemingly appeared on the bass over the years, but it doesn't take away from the sound it produces!

I used what George recommended .. The Dunlop 65.. Works great! On my LG5 Nitro finish and my kbp 5 Poly finish too.

Now i also have a nitro kbp4 , but that finish is all torn up from touring and gigging for 12 straight years across europe and the US .. i just gave up trying to polish it.

Oh wow, no way! Bass buds indeed!! You have a sick bass btw ;).

I used to be extremely anal about how I kept the condition of my basses, but that was the case for the basses I had planned on buying to try and flipping if needed, just because of how most people who are into high-end basses like to keep their gear.

And likewise, THIS bass, my LG5, will not part from me God willing! I don't plan to ever get rid of this bass, so resale condition doesn't really matter to me anymore. So, my heart doesn't break every time I find new dings hahah.

It ain't wear, it's charactah! And if any of you are down in San Diego, just stop by the shop and we can talk Coppolos (and other fine bass guitars!).

My guitar player is out with his other band Supersonic Blues Machine this week.. we are supposed to get to LA this summer.. for sure..
If i get my back in order. If not ill be on crutches LOL
