Club Alleva Coppolo (part 3)

Hey Kirk. Cool! I really like the look of that bridge. I'm sticking with the stock hipshot on mine, but would probably opt for the 'proprietary' bridge if I ever take the plunge on another.

I ripped the clip from my UNT audition video and they said they wanted an uptempo rhythm changes tune so I figured I had a better chance of pulling it off on the electric, rather than the upright. lol. I played all the other selections on the double bass with my jazz combo, but I had no clue what to do for the fast one so I wound up doing that. I probably should have slowed it down with the slow downer since it was right the edge of my safe zone. Hopefully, they take it is as "he's willing to take risks" rather than "he has inconsistent feel"! (fingers crossed).

hmm...or maybe they will be so spellbound by the hotness of my Alleva-Coppolo that they throw scholarship money at me. ;)

XavidmanX, when ya go to the new shop be sure to bring a camera!

Thanks a bunch, Dean! You'll have to check it out sometime.

My teacher checked it out last night and he was really digging it. He commented that he barely even had to try to play it. This bass plays itself as some would say.

He was also digging on how even with the preamp engaged it sounds so passive. Just like a hopped up passive bass.

He now knows what we all do. :)

You haven't given us your opinions on sounds and playability. Had a chance to play it in a band context yet?

Not yet.. Probably this weekend.

The sound and playability is incredible of course. The tone blows me away every time I hear it. The best passive "Fender" type tone you'll ever hear, IMO. Amazingly clear and still has that vintage vibe. Just exactly what I anticipated and wanted.

My LG5 plays effortlessly. I couldn't really ask for more. If Jimmy ever builds me another bass, I'm gonna tell him to make it just like this one.

I don't have my Mac at home right now and I'm checking this at work but I don't get to much anymore. So I apologize for the lull in my responses.

The headstock pics are the truest to the actual color of the bass. I love how dark the rosewood is and the sound with the TI flats is just killer.

Man, I wish I could pick up one of these used! I'm bummed Jimmy moved out of NYC...I live a few minutes from his old shop and I had just gotten to know his instruments before I had to go on the road and when I came back...the place was closing.

Maybe this year will allow me to place an order...or maybe someone here wants to sell theirs to me?

I've have flats on both my LG-5 and KBP-5. I've had Labella's, chromes, and now Sadowsky flats on the LG-5. The Labella's moved over to the KBP-5 when it arrived and I bought a set of chromes while waiting for the Sadowskys to ship. I didn't like the sound of the chromes at all which is funny since I've found them ok on other basses. I played one gig with them, after having had them on for a month, and couldn't get a tone I liked. The Sadowsky's finally came and they sound great. The only issue is the last batch of Sadowsky flats have a defective d string. Sadowsky has been great in resolving the issue and will replacing the strings when they receive their next order.
