Hey Gang,
I'm glad you all are enjoying Bernie and Sean's basses. They are both incredible instruments. I've said this before and gotta say it again, even though I still haven't found a home out here in Cali YET, I am really happy to be here and extremely excited about each bass I build. It seems as though each instrument I complete somehow reflects this. Being out here, where (let's face it) electric bass was invented and where several other incredible builders are, is a huge inspiration and I am motivated with the creative bug. I am planning on some changes and additions to the line. Hopefully by NAMM 2009... Oh yeah and this will include (FINALLY) case candy (K-Jung , Sean & All ;)) and Dunlop strap locks (Darryl are you reading this... don't let a brutha down). The other goodies I have to keep on the D L until their reveal. Thanks again for all your continued support. More Photo's on the way.

Bernie and Sean... beautiful instruments!

And Jimmy..... whoohoo on the dunlap dual mode straplocks (similar to Sean, it's the first thing I do when I get a bass), and the case candy (especially if it includes a small 'bent' screwdriver that would work easily with your old school truss rod adjustment mechanism).

First gig under my belt. It was church, but I guess I can call it a gig (500+ people). How can a bass be so fat yet not boomy? Holy cow, I am seriously impressed. I've never played a bass more plug and play. I started out everything flat and it sounded great. Little tweaks yield audible results, which also sound great. I ended up the second service with the neck pickup slighly turned down, about 10% off tone, and ~5% bass boost. Just sick!

The neck finish will take a bit to get used too, as I am more used to the matte finish on my Sadowsky and Ken Smith. I still like it, but it is just different.

Most people "not in the known" commented "nice Fender jazz." Everyone said it sounded great though -- even my wife (who plays keys with me, she is SICK but that's another story heh), and that is not a normal thing heheh (for example, she doesn't dig my Ken Smith at Church for some reason).

I just got back from an important recording session for a French Hip-hop artist who's working with Snoop dog on a Track. He loved the LG's sound through my DB680 and was really pleased with the overall sound.

Well, I've held off the GAS for an AC for as long as I could and I was just wondering if you AC owners/players could comment on the fingerboard options. Do you notice a tonal difference between the "standard" RW and the Dalbergia? ...or even the other fingerboard options listed on the site, if you have experience with them?

Yeah, no kidding! I remember the first gig I did with this one (Sunday worship also), I got there late so I walked in, plugged in and started playing, totally flat. Band kicked off (LOUD) and every single note was just thick and clear right there, no tweaking, no loss across any frequency range... just right there. Sick. . .

Personally (maybe Tommixx and the DN crowd will help me out), I believe I do. There is a certain sweet, buttery quality to the tone of this bass that I haven't heard in others with the rosewood. Jimmy has told me that he hears a subtle difference between the lighter (more red) Dalbergia and the really, really dark stuff. He said the red seems to have a little more growl whereas the dark stuff is a little, well, darker :smug:. Anyway, I had the opportunity to play two others with rosewood and they were equally "old," "vintage," etc... sounding, but to me, there was something a little extra and inexplicable going on with the Dalbergia.

That said, many, many players I respect have said they hear no difference - and actually, Jimmy might agree, I have not asked him. I could be totally full of it. . . but I swear I hear it.

I would just like to remind everyone that Club Alleva-Coppolo is rapidly approaching it's one year anniversary! August 29th of last year was the day our club was born and I think we may be one of the fastest growing clubs on TB. Be sure to remember our birthday!

I have experience with the beautiful Honduran Rosewood that Jimmy uses, as I have it on my LG5. You can see numerous pictures of it's lovely burgundy red-brown if you search photobucket for "PocketGroove".

Sonically, It's not at subdued as the Dalbergia so, tonally, it has more in common with Indian RW, but it is more beautiful to my eye.

I will post a youtube clip for everyone here soon.

I made this clip for another project, so it doesn't really showcase the versatility of the LG5...it's really just me trying to hang on to some rhythm changes for dear life! Don't Laugh!



I love the nuance of the mids on the LG5, but I don't think the little mic on my camera accurately reproduces what I'm talking about. Anyways, I hope it gives you a little more info on which to base your purchase.

Hey Matt. We have the same haircut:D

Wonderful playing! Even with the camera mic, the punch, articulation and that little bit of nice growl down low really comes out. That's a beautiful instrument, and I enjoyed the playing a lot. I tell you what, playing that close to the bridge at that tempo will make a man out of you:D

Ok I forgot who asked me about the swap on the Bent plate bridge vs the Hipshot.
I didn't think I should start a new thread for this.

But I got a chance to swap them out today.. Sorry it took so many months guys.
I have not had the chance to gig with it today since the swap was done after I got home and had my speed drill driver.

The hipshot i found has a wider freq response. A little more (hifi) if you want to call it that. Very even in response with good lows balanced with a silkier top.

The Bent plate almost seems to have more punch. I hate to say mid present though. because it has a wide freq response too but the energy seems to focus more on the wood of the bass body.. Its a little warmer if i dare say that.. and really nails the "Fenduh" wink wink-style bass.
It makes the bass feel different too. Not better just different. Maybe its in my head but the it does scream vintage now...

I think it is a very nice compliment to an LG style or KBP5.
My LG now has the Bent Plate on it as of today. I have two sessions this week and a few gigs starting Wednesday through Sunday so i will report back when im done.
