RA..... that 'transition period' of alder with 70's spacing.

Then, 'season to taste' with various options, like fancy tops, 4 or 5 strings, Nitro finish, binding (with or without blocks), classic bridge, etc. Nice!
As much as this disturbs me, I am really getting interested in one of those 5 string P's
I don't think that is how it works anymore. Options come in the series, and it's an all or nothing. The series is like standard, classic, supreme or something similar like that.

There's no 'all or nothing' about it. It seems the only thing that Jimmy is not particularly interested in doing is 60's pickup spacing on an LM. Everything else can be 'mixed and matched' just as before. The multiple additional models is, I guess, a good way to 'guide' customers to typical combinations of options if they don't quite know exactly what they want.
There are some posts very early on in the first Alleva thread. I recall it was more aesthetics than tone difference, but not sure. You might be able to find it with a search within that first thread.
Jimmy told me himself that he thinks the bent plate goes better with LGs (thumper, warmer 60's tone) and that the Hipshots might better suit an LM (more aggressive 70's tone). I'm more inclined to say that the differences would be slight at best, but I'm in no position to contradict Jimmy.

I'm really liking my Rootbeer LM. Even though its not the normal route, I have the vintage bent plate bridge on it now... opened it up a touch more while also still retained good fundamental....sounds older/closer to an original for sure, and open and punchy. I like either bridge ( Hip or Bent) as they both give an equally valid character IMO. I've not tried the Badass though....
I dont know if anyone has tried these yet- but I've been stringing Fodera strings on my ACs. I have steels on the LM, VW nickels on the LG, and go back and forth between steels and VW nickels on the RA. The thing is, no matter which Fodera string I put on any AC they sound great even though they alter some of the character of the tone. I've never had this before..usually I've been able to narrow 'the" brand ( Fodera or otherwise) and gauge to every bass and stick with that...always slightly dissapointed when I experiment. Its been spinning my head around a bit as there is no one clear and obvious choice. Nice to have choice though IMO!
BTW I have Fodera strings on my Fodera, and Ken Lawrence fretless too..they are great strings .
Amongst the many things I love about ACs two come to mind at this moment...that every one sounds huge ( big booty overall tone -even mine's and esoxhntr's RAs) , and that ( as everyone knows here) every model sounds like or very close to the Fender they are modelled after...I've learned not to take this for granted so easily. After living with my ACs I can say the differences in character between the 3 models are very authentic to the differences in the originals . This sounds like it could be easy to do...but in practice I'm not sure if its as easy as it looks!

Ok, I think we actually agree, but I was talking more from a perspective of price. I spoke with Jimmy about it recently, and also went through it when I ordered my KBP-5. He doesn't really do options anymore, just option packages -- which are all or nothing (at least price wise). The packages have names like classic and supreme, etc. So you can't call up and say I want an LG-5 with nitro paint and hipshot bridge. Jimmy would say, if you want nitro, you want an LG-5 classic and the price includes nitro paint, metallic or non-metallic paint, bent bridge, etc. It's not like back when I ordered my LG-5 and I bought each option I specifically wanted.
