Jazz (both traditional, such as big band and combo, as well as modern, such as fusion type stuff) has always been my first love, but you can't perform that around my area unless you wanna' play for free in the afternoons somewhere to folks that want you to play soft enough so they can talk over you. I dig performances with audiences there to hear/dance to the band, so I play a lot of beer-selling dance music, and in worship gigs where they have to be there and listen (and sing along as well).
). The three worship gigs are a small combo amp sized thing playing a bit more on the traditional side 2/month, a more major production with full stage/lights/aviom (no stage amps) 1-2/month, which is a lot more contemporary, and a full PA/stage amp thing, also very contemporary, 1/month or so.
Current and future owners, thanks for chiming in. As a future owner myself (hopefully very near future if Jimmy ships today), I am always interested in hearing what other folks play and gig, and you guys certainly do a bunch of both!
Vic, i can totally understand that. It's kind of funny because I consider myself to be a bit of a weirdo when it comes to style of playing + choice of bass.
I wouldn't say that my band, in my sig, is hard rock, certainly not metal, but we do play a varied range of rock in a sense. However, the one thing that I truly care about when I'm writing my bass part is how funky I am getting with the drummer. Its fun because everyone in the band has their own variety of influences, and tries to make their own mark on the music, without being repetitive.
Anyway, I am confident that Bigg Redd Dos will kill it. This is coming from a guy whose main bass to play all of this rock is a Rickenbacker 4003 Fretless.
Oh my gosh yes!!! Oh, and while that Ric has to sound really cool, I eventually tired of my Ric (4001) and switched to a J bass myself years ago. Not because I wanted to copy Geddy, but simply because I think I arrived at the same conclusion he did. Lack of punch and cut. I had to throw a lot more power at the Ric to get it to sit fat in the mix, whereas a J bass just had that beefy cut right off the bat.Anyway, I am confident that Bigg Redd Dos will kill it. I think you'll come to the same conclusion as well. As cool as that 4003FL is, I'm confident you're gonna' be glad you jumped on that J... especially one as ridiculous as bigg redd. "Noyce!"

As cool as my 4003FL sounds, I definitely want some more "oooomph" in the mix, some more punch and clarity. I will still throw the FL in for some tunes, but bigg redd dos is going to be my steed, that's for sure.
I bet I will came to the same conclusion for sure. If only she was getting here today instead of next Wednesday
