Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't an RA the same as an LM just with an Alder body?
...and the block inlays standard.

Yup - think so. But for whatever reason, it's a combination that works incredibly well.
Yep, just ask Geddy. :)

If I recall correctly, the early 70's J's were alder, and I believe, as of somewhere between 73-75 (no later than 75 tho), they became ash.

So the RA is trying to get a little more of the early 70's vibe and the LM is trying to get a little more of the later 70's vibe.

That's it exactly Vic. Jimmy tells me periodically (and I keep forgetting) which exact year he's after with the RA. It's either '71 or '72 though.
He told me '72, but really, either should be accurate, because the tone genre spans multiple years... I think it goes from '69 to 72-74.

The other thing is, that the RA apparently is also a tribute to a person, though who it is I have no idea. Jimmy won't say, and I'm pretty sure there are one or two more on the forum that know, but won't let on (Kirk, Jason, this means YOU ;) ).

I beleive Joe cracked the code several pages ago..........buzz or no buzz, I love my RA-5........it's just that most of the time when I hear about people looking for an A-C, they are looking for an LG or LM as if the RAs aren't even being considered.....shame........

I, for one, definitely DID consider one, if that makes you feel better. :)

You want buzz, or perspective, or food for thought, or whatever? I've had my RA5 for almost a year now. It's flat out the best bass I've ever played, and since it's been here a lot of basses have been shown the door, including (among others) 2 Foderas and a Sadowsky. I wouldn't trade it straight up for anything - not even another Alleva. The RA is a special, special instrument. It might not be everybody's cup of tea, but everyone who's played mine has flipped over it. For those of you who are thinking AC, it is a "must consider" for sure.

BTW, yes I have played an LG5 (Dalbergia board), and I own a KPB5 (also Dalbergia board), and though both are awesome, neither is quite as satisfying to play for me as the RA5.

How's that for buzz? :eyebrow:

That's great to hear. It just makes the wait for my
RA-5 just a little harder. ;):D

Wow, look at this bass. It came out better than I could have imagined. I just have to call the shop tommorow to arrange shipping. (I'm thinking overnight:smug:)

Jimmy asked me to post this pic for him.

The first bass is my LG5 with DN board, the Shell pink LG5 is for Hajime and the Candy apple red maple neck is a one off RA5 with dots for Paul Taylor.

Peace,

That's awesome. I just ordered the exact same thing three weeks ago with the DN board.

BTW - Does that headstock on second neck from the right look like it has gold paint on it by any chance?

Congrats! You're going to love it. I'm diggin' mine in a big way.

Sorry AJ .... i was at the shop yesterday ... both of those necks on the end were natural headstocks .... it's just the lighting.
