I really just wanted one so I had a 4 string jazz. That's the biggest motivation behind it. I would also like to have a bass that's Nitro 3TB from the Fender guy. Obviously both of these are wants and certainly not needs. My LG5 covers everything I could ever want out of a jazz. It's an incredible bass. I'm definitely holding on to it. It's going nowhere!
I would like to have an Ash/Maple bass at one point and maybe that's what I should address next? Or I should just take any gear money and just put it towards the Fodera. You're right, it's definitely not cheap! Food for thought anyways..
So we'll see. I'll of course post if anything happens.
VERY glad to hear you are keeping it........Me and you started this club and you have been wanting one forever.....wouldn't be right somehow if you didn't have yours anymore.....you know what that bass is about........you why they are so hot right now.......I say hold on to it, at least for awhile and make sure you're sure before letting it go.......Grabbing an Modern 4 seems like a very logical next step, or maybe grabbing up a nice KBP 4 banger (2 or 3 are up for grabs in the classifieds now.....
) to do the whole 4 string thing.......one thing is for sure, you will have some sick ass basses by the time that Fodera is done........

The bass was actually en route to Brian at the Lowend when it went missing. The shipping company have changed their story several times but the latest is it went missing from a truck. They have filed a police report and now they are saying they can't locate their copy of this report:scowl:
It's therefore highly likely that it is floating around somewhere in Nashville. I hope the thief is stupid enough to put it up for sale somewhere.
Just for the record - this is the worst thing that has ever happened to me with music gear by a long shot. But the service and help I've had from Brian during this problem is the best I have had in 18 years of playing music. I can't recommend the Lowend highly enough.
On top of this, Jimmy has got my new AC on the way, ahead of schedule and it is due to arrive in a week or so.
Theres obviously some scumbag out there with my bass and I'm out of pocket. But I've also realised that there are some very good people out there who have gone out of their way to help me. I just wanted to say thanks.

Yeah, he emailed me back and told me about it... including the stolen off the back of the truck story.
Anyway, I'm sure it won't pass my way where I am, but I'll keep my eyes/ears open just in case I see something on one of the sites out there in internet-land.

KJung, I can't believe you are selling the Celinder! I remember you describing this one as really special in a post some time ago. Anyway good luck with the sale. Here in Europe they still seem to be quite in demand. I sold my Update 5 about a month ago and there was a lot of interest in it. Anyway it wasn't getting any attention after I got my LG5 so so I thought I might let somebody else enjoy it instead.
Have to end with a few good words about the AC...I had a tryout with a new band last Monday. It doesn't usually happen to me that I get comments about my sound but this time I was really surprised to get raving comments about the sound from both the singer and the piano player. I really loved the sound too...would describe it as warm, focused and perfect in the mix.
It is a special bass, and a special Update... huge and sizzly. I played a lot of gigs with it, and everyone who's heard it and played it thinks it's pretty cool. However, it hasn't been out of the house in almost a year and a half. Ever since I discovered the Alleva basses, the LM5 just spoke to me. It's much more 'vintage' sounding, much lighter, and the 34" scale, while not that big of a difference from the 35" scale, just feels better to me (sounds like you know just what I'm talking about). Then, when I got the Sadowsky MV5 with singles (which is 'on steroids' as much as I want to go at this point), the Celinder just started to sound very 'electronic and active' to me. Nothing wrong with that, but just not my thing at this point. So, my tonal shift to a more punchy and lower treble grindy vintage tone, along with the weight of the Celinder and the 35" scale really resulted in my keeping it not making much sense.
Someone else will have the chance to dig it, and I'm selling it at a reasonable price, considering what these things go for now.

I am a big fan of the early 60s jazz basses and am so in love with my Lakland USA JO4, it serves me well and continues too, BTW it's passive with Fralins alder/Rosewood.
In the past year or so I have been wanting to get myself the perfect 5 string to match my JO and replace my SR5 which I long grew far apart from (since sold). Living in NY I started by going to Sadowsky, then Jimmy when he was in the city, Rudy's and The Groove Shoppe (now closed). I tried just about everything I could get my hands on. What I didn't find was a 5 string bass I was really in love with.
Then came a decent paying gig for a few months and I needed a 5 for it, so I wound up picking up one of the new Fender 5 strings. It's decent but not Ideal. Then I bought from a fellow TBer a USA JO5 and it is pretty awesome, the only problem is the 35" scale again is something I'm not in love with although I can deal with it, otherwise a perfect bass.
So this naturally leads me to an LG5 34" scale 5 string with that early 60s tone. What has really held me back is that I hesitate to buy new without playing it first as I take a big hit on the back end of the "trial period" and a long wait time. Secondly when Jimmy was in NYC and I went to the shop I wasn't in love with the basses, at least the ones he had at the time that I was able to play they were ok but not what I was hoping for in terms of the perfect feel and tone. NO LG5 around at the time BTW...
What do you guys think?

First... the Groove Shoppe is no longer in business? Did I read that right. They just delivered a Fodera to a buddy of mine last week. Are they just finishing up orders? Bummer if I read your post correctly.
OK, this is a simple one. I don't dig the JO basses with Fralins AT ALL.. they sound rather thin and harsh to me. I LOVE the Alleva's, which sound totally vintage and very accurate to the old Fender's I've played.
You love the JO's and played some Alleva's and didn't really dig them.
So... answer is..... probably not your thing

This is OT, so I'll keep this short, but since it was asked...
I contacted them recently noting their "in stock" area is gone, tho they still list info on the GS5.
I was told they're still doing fine, but decided to focus on the GS5's, MTD's, and Foderas. I'm not sure if they're limiting these all to new orders only, but since they don't have the web-store online anymore, which is where they'd typically put trade-in instruments, my guess is they may just be doing new stuff now.
Anyway, in short, last I heard, within the last few weeks, is they're fine, just narrowing their scope.

They've closed the brick and Mortar store for sure, I don't want to speculate beyond that.

That's interesting I frequent the NYC area shops that stock vintage instruments and my JO4 is almost as close as I've come to the 62 - 64s that I love. I can't say the same for the other JOs I've played through just the one I have.
The JO5 has Lakland PUs and sounds very harsh depending on the rig I use. That being said on louder funky gigs I use my SA410 and Glock head and it kills, although I kringe playing it at home through a Focus and NL210.
Not sure any of that makes much sense.
